Again, WHERE'S THE LIVING TRIBUNAL?! Or The Beyonder?

I think they don't want to spend all of their cosmic capital, so to speak, since they'll eventually want to have more space-based threats in future movies once Thanos is out of the way. But maybe not immediately, I can imagine, so a lot of concepts and characters from the comics may not be introduced until later.

Honestly I hope they leave most of the cosmic stuff behind, because a lot of it is just...so messy from a world-building point of view.

Dr. Doom or Ultimates-style Magneto is probably the best choice for the next Big Bad threat. It also lets them spend Phase 4 to build up the new stable of characters before coming to Phase 5 and introducing Doom with a Fantastic Four movie, or Magneto with an X-Men movie.

I think the big question is if they retire the characters of Iron Man, Cap, and Thor, or if they pass the mantles on. Rhodey becoming IM, Bucky or Falcon taking up the shield, maybe Thor passing his power on to Valkyrie or another character. IIRC we know we're getting back the GOTG crew for at least one more movie, so I don't expect many changes there.

Still, it'll be interesting, and fun, to see where they go.

It'd feel weird if Thor gets retired - as long as he's been around, the soft reboot the pulled off in Ragnarok makes it feel like there's a lot of room for him to keep moving forward before it's time to hang up the hammer/axe/whatever.

Bucky or Falcon could easily step into Cap's shoes - Falcon for preference, he feels more the 'man of honour' that'd suit the shield; what happened to Bucky wasn't his choice but I feel like it's all given him more of a pragmatic perspective that wouldn't lend itself to Captain America stories (and even if it is a different person, I think there ought to be the 'DNA of Cap' in any future Cap stories even if it's filtered through a somewhat new personality, otherwise the name's just a brand with no real weight). Falcon feels good to me in the role.

Iron Man's... interesting. I mean Rhodey's got the suit and the fight, but he's not Tony, like Bucky-Cap I don't think a Rhodey movie would be 'Iron Man' in any sense that carries the legacy of Iron Man as it's been so far. I'm not sure who would though, to be honest (as much as I like to joke that it's obviously Shuri, I feel like she's good as Shuri and it'd be a bit of a disservice to her to package her as Iron Man going forward). Maybe we can do without a fully-realised Iron Man for a while, and do other movies while some new character grows into the part.

Rhodey might take it up, but Don Cheadle's old too. My guess was that they came up with the Ironheart comic to eventually take up the title in the MCU.

Certainly possible. Alternatively, they're going to put the characters on ice for a while, leave them in the background until they feel safe to re-introduce them with new actors.

I mean, this really does call for the James Bond approach. And theater audiences won't find new actors for superheroes something new and unsettling given we've already had three live action Peter Parker actors, two for most of the X-Men cast save Wolverine, and in the MCU itself, two Hulks/Banners (obviously not counting Eric Bana from the Ang Lee Hulk) and two Rhodeys. I'm not counting two sets of the Fantastic Four since.... well, did anyone even bother watching the last one?

I mean, Riri (who I know nothing about save her name) could work as a successor character, but honestly it feels like they should at least have Rhodey around to be her mentor and pass the torch, even if it means recasting the character due to Cheadle's age (assuming he's not willing to suit up for a mostly non-action appearance).

Anyway, less than two weeks to go before the main event, and I already have tickets pre-ordered for an IMAX 3D showing.
