With the overall positive reception of the Terminator Dark Fate Behind the Scenes video that was released yesterday I wanted to try and little experiment. Let's say that Terminator 3 through Genisys were never made, that T1 and T2 were the only films in the series and that Dark Fate was the first Terminator film released in the past 28 years. Would fans be more open to the idea of seeing Dark Fate?
I mean a huge chunk as to why DF is getting so much hate seems to stem mostly from the fact that we've gotten 3 films that were okay at best, insulting to the franchise at worst. Will Dark Fate be any good? No idea but I do wonder if we only had the first two films to go of, would more people be, at the very least, interested in Dark Fate?

Assuming there was no Terminator film since 1991, possibly. I'll admit that I would love for this one to actually be good, just because it's rare to feature women of an older age be portrayed as badass heroes. Of course, Linda Hamilton had earned it much like Sigourney Weaver.
As Cameron is behind this, I'm at least putting it under consideration, unlike with the previous films. Still, I feel strongly that T2 should have been the ending.

After every sequel between T2 and DF I would say that it's possible that if those 3 movies didn't exist then maybe DF would have more positive reception considering that lot of fans of series (including me) got burned by those. Also unlike T3, DF treats Sarah Connor with dignity and allows hr to be part of story instead of having her died between movies.

I'm very indifferent to this kind of pre-release speculation. The trailers don't give us any indication of how the movie's gonna turn out. It was practically a teaser considering we don't know the plot. I'm not sure what James Cameron producing is supposed to entail exactly, but I am interested just based on him saying yes or no to stuff. Then again, it might turn out that he doesn't have the delegation skills of Lucas.
I feel that the concepts brought out by the writing are what's going to make or break it with the fans. Salvation felt like a tie-in comic that's supposed to fill in stuff between movies. T3 and Genisys didn't have any new weighty conclusions at the end like the first 2 did.

Re: Terminator Dark Fate Discontinuity Thought Experiment
I think DF won't do so well for a simple reason. Past the first film, the movies are nowhere near as smart as most people think they are. It's just gonna be more simplified elements that The Terminator was never originally meant to be about. Probably more time travel, Arnold will be back, and so on and so forth... bleh. I expect nothing good from this. Though if they go full-blown fanservice, they might satisfy fans enough to avoid losing money, and I think the best they could hope for is mixed critical reception.
