FWiW, the opening weekend audience was about 53% male. Shazam's audience was about 57% male. I think men weren't staying away in droves because of the feminist slant of the movie or Obi Wan's take on it.

There's a flip side, though. Terminator: Dark Fate, Charlie's Angels(2019), Ghostbusters(2016)... Feminism may not keep men away, but it doesn't seem to pull audiences in.

Indeed more women in the US went to see Rambo Last Blood than Dark Fate or Charlie's Anglels.

Weirdly, I had less trouble with Cassandra Caine (who should have been Harper Row) than Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress. She is the least Italian looking woman ever cast in a film.

I'm a big fan of the Birds Of Prey comics in general. Big fan of the Dixon run which Dc has yet to collect in trade (Thanks Dan Didio!)

This film which was titled Birds of Prey..... looked nothing like the Birds of Prey. Zero. Throw in some truly horrid costumes and poor Cassandra Cain you deserved better. If not for Harley being here... I'd have sword this was a sequel to Catwoman (2005) and not a modern comic book movie in the DCEU!

Also my god the marketing did not help in the slightest. Also the damage control currently raging didn't help ethier. (Seriously Conway? Your going to blame the Teen boys because of a lack of TnA and then bash them for it. Classy mate.)

S ya not surprised at all that it opened as low as it did. Now the question is can Valatines day save it or will Sonic the Hedgehog kick its bum..

I got back from seeing it, and honestly I thought it was quite good. While as a Cass Cain fan, I wasn't super thrilled with how they chose to interpret her in this movie , the cast and script were great. I loved the fight choreography in particular.

Honestly, while it has underperformed, it seems to me like it's not a complete flop by any stretch of the word. It is coming out in February, after all, which isn't traditionally a great month for movies (stuff like Deadpool and Black Panther are definite outliers in that regard). Plus it apparently had a pretty low budget, too, which should make it a success in the long run.

It's funny because they could have just called her Harper Row and it would have been fine.

I understand why Cass isn't in the movie as is because Helena Bertinelli is fulfilling her role (albeit the whitest non-Italian English-looking Helena they could have cast). Still, I find it weird they chose that name.

Even if they'd called her Stephanie Brown, we could have pretended her dad was a supervillain.

My brain so often forgets that Huntress' current(?) continuity is that she is part of a mafia family.

Assuming that is still the case... Who can keep up with this anymore?

It looks to be likely to recoup its budget. It cost about $84.5 million to make and the rule of thumb I keep hearing is that box office results need to be about twice that to cover the total budget. It's made about $160.7 million worldwide, which is pretty close by rule of thumb standards, and there's some time in theaters left, plus rental revenues.

Not that I'd look for a sequel. Investors don't look to eventually break even.
