Choice is mostly a good thing.

After all, if you are older then say...25, you grew up in a world of very few choices. If you were a sci fi fan in the 80's or 90's...well, you did not have that much to watch: you have very few choices. Now in 2020, sci fi is everywhere...you have lots of choices. Sure, it's not all good, but at least you can try it.

Are book adaptations worse then back in the old days? Well, really are there many book adaptations of all time that are good: that is a GOOD adaptation of the book. Most of the time all you can wish for is that the movie is a standalone story vaguely something like the book. And most times you don't get anything close to the book.

Movies in 2020 are getting worse: you can see the Hollywood problems. And the big one is the mess of Politically Correct Bias and One Sided Viewpoint....on top of making the story some kind of massive statement, but not even trying to make a good movie. And that is on top of the lawyers and other nit pickers cutting up movies with rewrites and re-shoots and edits.

Well I'm in my 40s... I didn't seem to get less enjoyment out of it back then, although age will play a part (childhood and teens and early 20s). There might be more choice now but I think that's one reason I just can't get excited about much now, to the point where I hardly ever watch TV.

I saw this interesting YouTube video about choice:

Choice is an illusion created between zoze with power and zoze without.

I guess you need to ask yourself why you feel more choice is bad and does not make you excited about TV anymore. TV shows are always a toss up: some good, some bad....and a few really great.

For just sci fi, fantasy and action adventure, in the past 20 years or so, there have been at least fifty TV shows. Again, they have not been all great....but with fifty to pick from, you should be able to find a good ten or so you like.

Maybe the problem is the Hype. Back in the Time Before Time, when a TV show came out you knew about it way ahead of time. There were commercials on all the time "cumming this fall" and magazines(remember them?) like Starlog and TV Guide were full of articles about upcoming shows. And you likely had a large social group that would also talk about TV shows. In 2020....well the Hype is hidden. Sure, there are Websites, but you really have to go looking for the content there. And lots of Websites have way too much clutter. Social Media does it a little, but again you need to follow the right ones it get it.

I mentioned that earlier. Rarity value. Treats are something special, have too many of them and they're no longer treats, so no longer have the pleasure a treat brings.

This is personal though. Maybe a good TV show is not a "treat", maybe it's a Good Meal. A treat is a once a week thing, but you need a good meal every day.

And if it is a treat, just limit your TV viewing. If you only watch one new show once in a while, they should keep the treat status for you.

A good meal every day is a routine thing though. Pleasant enough but forgettable. Not much of a life if everything winds up in the forgettable bin, nothing really to look forward to.

People don't do that though, do they? Going back to the meal analogy, they just stuff themselves with the treats and get fat.
