Yo, this is Captain Crimson, BACK with another discussable topic. Yes, haven't touched on SG in a while, but my comment to Madner Kami in the other chat got me thinking about this, so I figured, why not?
Basically, the premise is simple. How would the Stargate fare through the ages depending on the era it's first brought online? Let's ignore niggling lore details and continuity issues, let's just focus on this in the here and now using our own RL history.
I will break it down into decades, specifically. I will only be using the '80s as a baseline template given the rabid computer innovation then, and anything earlier just seems unfeasible. So, let's get down into it!
How would the Stargate Program differ from the show if it was discovered in the years between 1980 to 1990? By both the Reagan and Bush administrations? Switch over on to 1990 to 2000, and we go with the Clinton administration? Moving on to the aughts, we find the Bush and early Obama administrations until finally capping off with the latter Obama years and the start of the Trump administration.
How do you feel the diametrically opposed administrations through the radical culture shifts would handle the use of the Stargate? From major keystone events like the Afghan-Soviet War, fallout to the Iran hostage crisis, standoffs between the USSR and US that nearly resulted in nuclear war, and then the fall of communism, the rise of '90s New Economy commercialism, followed by 9/11, renewed war across the Middle East, and greater social unrest? Let me know, smash out a reply down below, and I'll talk again soon.

I've thought the ideal setting for a new Stargate show or movie would be in Egypt around when the Afrika Korps threatened it in 1942 or so.
Instead of holding the line, the British collapse and the Germans and Italians sweep in only to realize the Brits got taken by surprise from the rear with a gate in the Giza Pyramid opening and so have to unite with the Brits to drive the invading Goa'uld Syatem Lord back.
After that everyone is scared shitless and so WWII is called off with Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and the Empire of Japan still hanging around.
Fast forward into the 50s or 60s after everyone has calmed down and had a bit to study the gate and a joint endeavor is organized to send teams out comprised of Americans, Commonwealth, Soviets, Germans, Japanese, French and Italians located in a place controlled by the British as the strict owners of the gate itself (Malta small and easily to isolate if the gate is lost possibly being one, or making Gibraltar into the new Cheyenne Mountain... or possibly the Germans haul it off before things settles down in Egypt).
With that you wouldn't just have a blank slate to work with about better handling the Goa'uld better than cartoon villains, but the international rivalries where Nazis, fascists, communists and everyone else have to cooperate and keep an eye on each other would provide good ground for drama back on earth as well.
Make a movie about the WWII setting, then a follow on TV series set in the decades to come.

Well, Stargate does run through the end of the first Bush, Clinton years and the first couple Bush years. For the first seven years, the "president" and "US Government" is way in the background.....and the government and president (Clinton) always make the "right" call/decision on everything. Then they add a fictional president. A huge, HUGE part of the show, a thread that runs through nearly all the episodes, is the USA having a huge hunger for new technology. And by season 5, they have tons and by 9 they have a small fleet of Battlestars....yet somehow none of that effects America at all.
An 80's Raegan Stargate would be a lot like the show...just with more "Cold War" lines. The Stargate people are all ready Reagan Aggressive...but you would get a bit less whiny "oh is this the wrong thing to do" and much more "fire and lets sort them out later!"
Once you get to Bush II and 9/11.....well you get the whole terrorist angle. So guess you could have some "Offworld Patriot Act", with more "we killed all the primitive fools and took the zap machine because we must use it on the terrorists!"
Obama....er, well, guess you'd get a LOT more Silly Social Justice Stuff...so a big mix of people and a lot less white folks. This would also NOT be a military show...as Obama would run to the UN and roll over with the whole "America is just one dumb country and the Stargate should belong to the world". Leading to a secret world Stargate command made up of countries Liberals love, China, Iran, Cuba and such....with lowly "just America" only having one vote. This could make for the nice spin of China taking over and doing all sorts of evilness (basically the plot that almost happened in the show)....but you could have SG-1 made on REAL Americans that have to fight Obama and his anti American loons, China, the Ghould and other threats. So like China would have a plan to drop a couple replicators on Twain, Obama would be all "yuper doddles it's ok with me", but SG 1 would have to stop them alone and then hide it from the Obama Thugs ("no sir we were not in Asia fighting replicators...we were doing our mandatory 127 sensitivity training. ")
Trump...well, a lot like what we got. The Space Force being the cover for the whole Homeworld Security and X-303 fleet. Trump would maybe get a bit less whiny stuff and more tough stuff. Or...well, you know it would be like Star Trek Discovery with the whole "hate the government because they are not Liberal and that is wrong".

Can't be Mr. Clinton, since his term ran from 1992 to 2000. That Hayes became president in 2004 (which ironically they screw up, since it should be 2005) would mean there was a predecessor to him, most likely from the opposite party, one that IMO, was a democrat.
Everything else is on point - mostly. It would be so fun to see a new Cold War style arms race through the Stargate in the '80s, or how this would play into the failed War on Terror.
