What I Love About Raya and the Last Dragon So Far

Post by Winter »

I LOVE how this world looks. The design, the outfits and even the creatures all look so fantastic and unique and it's a solid bland of Asian Mythology with just enough of the Disney style thrown in to make it look truly unique. This is a world I would LOVE to go to and I haven't felt that in a LONG time. The last fictional world that I actually wanted to go to was Avatar: The Last Airbender and while other world have been interesting (the MCU comes to mind) I can't think of a world that I truly wanted to be real.

I also have to admit that I LOVE Raya's overall outfit. It's instantly recognizable and already passes the silhouette test with flying colors. Her weapon is also something we haven't seen in a Disney Property before. I mean, seriously when the last time we had a Sword Whip wielded by a Disney Princess? That's just awesome right off the bat. Completely impracticable, I don't think a weapon like that would actually work but this is a world with dragons, giant pet bug cats and con-babies. I can suspend my disbelief for a weapon like Raya's.

So, yeah, I really love the look of this world and that's more then enough to get me exited for this film.

On a more serious topic though, I do hope this film is a hit mainly because of how poorly treated Kelly Tran was in Star Wars, both by the fans and the higher ups. I may hate Rose but that never transferred over to her actor who really did the best she could and her performance as Raya is honestly really sounding good so I hope this film is a hit. I want to sing the praises of this film because I like what I've seen so far (minus the supporting character cause I feel a bit mixed on how many comic relief characters we have (five in total)).

I'm also hoping that the villain the film is pushing helps breaks the trend of the rather lackluster Disney Villains we've gotten so far. I don't want another twist villain, I'm tired of twist villains, I want a villain who is as engaging as the hero and is one I love to hate or one I can sympathize with.

So, yeah, love the world, the outfits and hoping it's a success. :D
