My Biggest Issue with Avatar Book 3 Fire

Post by Winter »

Like many on this site I'm a Huge fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender/The Legend of Korra. This is as great as Star Wars, Star Trek and Lord of the Ring and it has had a profound effect on Pop-culture (TLOK being the more notable of the two for being the first kids show to put real emphases on a realistic look on PTSD and being also the first show to have LGBT character as the leading characters). It is such a great show that when both series came to Netflix BOTH hit the Number One spot of most watch show on the site despite both being several years old.

But personally I do have one issue with the final season of the series and that's how Aang seems to move more into the background as the season goes on. As soon as Zuko joins it pretty much becomes the Prince Zuko show featuring the Last Airbender as Aang only has one episode focusing on him and his development and after that he's barely in the show.

After the Firebending Masters we get 2 episodes focusing on Sokka and Zuko, one Episode focusing on Zuko and Katara (still my OTP BTW), one ensemble episode that's more about recapping the series up to this point and the four part finale which is another ensemble story that, again, puts more emphases on Zuko then it does Aang who's barely in the first 2 episodes and does very little until the last two.

Now, I get why this happened, with only 9 episodes left and Zuko needing to gain the trust of Team Avatar and the series needing to wrap up any and all remaining plot threads it's obvious where the focus had to go. But it still bugs me that Aang wasn't given more to do in the last half of the series and honestly not really that much in the first half either. Most episodes focused on Aang getting ready to face the Fire Lord and the ones that didn't was about his and Katara's will they, won't they plot which, honestly, I was never really invested in.

Say what you will about Star Wars' Original Trilogy but Return of the Jedi was still just as much Luke's story as it was Vader's. And over on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power I love how the finale season kept as much focus on Adora as it did Catra. The show was always about the relationship between the two so Season 5 putting as much focus on the two of them as possible wasn't really a problem because the show Always put their relationship ahead of everything else.

Please note I don't hate or even dislike Book 3 but I do wish Aang was given more to do character wise.

Still love this show and I still hold Sozin's Comet as the best episode of the series and if you haven't seen this show Shame On You!

I agree with what you are saying but I perfer it to some other series takes on new comers. Steven Universe comes to mind, in Avatar Zuko take over, in STeven universe they had Lapis be involve in the plot kicking and screaming We never got even one episode about LApis and any gem (sans PEridot) interacting despite their relationship.
