Still don't see the point of the question when you can just as easily ask "would STD have benefited from better writers?"

We know arc-driven shows can and do work quite well. Therefore the shittyness lies with the writers, not the format. Who cares if the shit might stink slightly less if it were a different format? No one who thinks it's shitty want's to settle for slightly less shitty: they want it to be non-shitty. So as long as we're dealing in hypotheticals and wishes and ponies, we might as well wish for the hypothetical fastest prettiest pony.

Even if I had a format preference, I'd vastly prefer gold in the format I like less to shit in the format I like more.

I like stuff that i expect to be part shitty.

Mainstream Indian movies, Direct to DVD action flicks. i gave up on the cult of perfection.

Yeah but i am the OP and you can make the thread about what if the writers were better and that was discussed to death. I felt like going at it from an another angle.

I dunno, I think TNG and especially DS9 was damn near perfect, despite their flaws sometimes.

If they're attempting to recreate DS9, they're doing it all wrong. The DS9 staff weren't such massive dicks to one another. If they fought, it was because of their basic humanity, that they cared. That's not the case with such cynical and edgy assholes in today's Trek. It's because they wanna compete with other mainstream shows, but they're going about it all wrong, and they're going to drive away the older fans eventually. Especially when STG bombs. One reviewer put it best, that no one is having any fun in STD. At all. Which is fitting since an STD is not fun at all. I doubt we'll have fun with STG either. I don't just watch Trek for a dark and gritty serialized war story, like on DS9. Sometimes I want high-flying sci-fi like "Cause and Effect" or exploring past the frontier or the goodness in our own humanity, that perhaps, maybe there is a hope for us, because the real world consistently proves my lack of faith in the world, and I want an escape from that.

You think the early seasons of TNG are great?

There weren't many, but there were still a few good episodes in the first two seasons.
