Wow that movie was great! :)

It didn't feel like an origin story to me because there was so much going on. There was just enough setup to explain the final power boost and that was about it.

I thought the characters were nicely humanized. The 90s nostalgia made me feel horribly old, but it still worked. Gotta say I didn't see the big twist coming. Pacing was good. Needless to say, I ship Carol with her "best friend".

Why would anyone actively want this movie to bomb, especially before they've even seen it?

As usual, I find your analogies rather opaque. In what way is she like Hawkgirl and how does she resemble Green Lantern?

I don't think I'd really call it an analogy, specifically speaking.

Whatever you call it, your meaning is clear as mud. Explain yourself, sir.

The meaning? I'd think that's probably the most self explanatory aspect of the sentence.

Though with my thoughts on the movie, which I believe this thread is grounded on, yeah there's probably not much meaning to that particular regard.

How the flipping furry-ass double-dildoed fuck is she "a cross between Hawkgirl and Green Lantern", you wilfully obtuse mystagogue?!

In this case the people who wanted it to bomb are in the minority they just happen to be very vocal about their opinion on that. There are some, like my sister, who doesn't like the direction the movie is going in and felt that the movie is going to be bad thanks in large part to the still controversial 2016 Ghostbusters movie and The Last Jedi.

As I said at the start I liked the movie, it was a fun movie and there's only one scene I disliked and even then scene is really a issue with the rest of the MCU so it didn't bug me all that much. It's a fun popcorn flick, I enjoyed seeing it, I'll likely enjoy watching it again.

Back over with GB16 and TLJ I didn't like either films, (if you enjoyed them more power to you and I mean that sincerely) and there are a number of reasons for that. I felt the former had to much gross out humor and was really unremarkable and forgettable and the latter I feel has a number of issues with both it's plot and characters and didn't really feel like a Star Wars film.

However, both films brought out the worst of both sides, especially the latter. If you liked the films you were a man hating feminazi and if you didn't like the films you were either a misogynist pig or a brainwashed woman who needed a man to tell you what to do.

Even if you had good reasons to like or dislike either film you would be harassed from both sides and sadly a lot of that bleed over to CM due to everyone blowing out the descriptions of this movie out of proportion. Some took issue with CM being called the most powerful Avenger, others just didn't liked the idea of CM having a movie due to issues in her comics and others were the flip side of the coin saying that this would be the best MCU movie and that if you didn't share that opinion you were the enemy and the other side said the opposite and the cycle continues.

And that's the reason for why some wanted it to fail but thankfully the film is doing well so the controversy will likely go away in a month or two and everyone will be wondering what all the fuss was about.

That's better.

First this isn't really indicate that she's a ripoff or anything, it's just a noting of similar aspects between two or more franchises. Also, not to say that there isn't necessarily characteristics that evade those two other characters, I'm just sayin!

First thing I noticed was that Carol Danvers takes up the mantle of Captain Marvel from another person, an alien guy. Then in a role reversal, Hawkgirl, an alien woman flies around with her magic hammer. Carter Hall, a human airman in the Air Force takes up a Hawk mantle through some mystical energy and becomes Hawkman. It's pretty loose, so looking around I found that Hawkgirl would have her ass handed to her by Carol Danvers. Only reason I thought to compare them in the first place was because I've seen that hammer beat the shit out of Superman. So, hmm.

Then I'm watching this movie and she gets flung into space and then her powers encase and protect her in the harsh ravages of space itself. She's distinct in her emotion, which is a close cousin as will, that usually serves to set humans apart from their alien horde they run around with. Then we also have Yon-Rogg that serves as a mentor, and even shares a somewhat similar physical demeanor to another mentor associated with Hal Jordan Green Lantern.

Also she has a mohawk.

I was watching the credits roll and noticed something like the "Unit Production Design" credit went to AJ Vargas. Was kinda wondering if that's Angry Joe Vargas.

Just a note on Captain Marvel being called the most powerful Avenger. My problem with that is not that she's stronger than the men, its that she feels like a Deus Ex Machina inserted into the story because they could not work out how to defeat an impossible villain. She has come out of nowhere. She is the Elder Wand of Marvel.
This is a character that needed to be in Phase 2, simple as that.
