In terms of the direction at least, Suicide Squad wasn't trying to ape GotG, that all happened with the editing. Not that I think the cut that they would of gone for originally would of been better mind you, but at least it would of felt like an actual movie, rather than a string of music videos occasionally interrupted by the Margot Robbie variety hour.

True enough, I forgot about the executive meddling stuff rife with that movie. I really hope Gunn keeps it dark and gritty. I remember Slither and Super being pretty dark so I'm pretty optimistic.

Sucks that this whole thing has put Guardians, and maybe some other stuff, back 2-3 years. Still only 2 movies next year. But good that he's back.

It'd be nice if there is some consistency in tone in the sequel, but Suicide Squad shouldn't really be Dark. Dreary, sure, but it's all the zaney colorful elements that Batman spins around with its villains encapsulated, needless to say.

And this movie was desperately trying to mirror Guardians of the Galaxy. The interactions were light-hearted and they were utterly anti-heroes disguised as criminals.
