Ok, on a more serious note, I don't see why annoying about half their audience is a good move for CBS. Just make the bloody show!
If they were willing to tank last years Oscars...

Will the press try to make it a burden along with some creators maybe?

Everyone is obsessed with it and its very tiresome. I should think he'd make for some good inspiration, I just hope they don't get too preachy with it the way TNG could at times.

Hey as far as i am concerned they should dump their Roddenberry political baggage. But i am always mentally ready for preachy Star Trek.

Their is no way that a SF drama that engages with any serious topic at all will be able to be apolitical, and indeed their is no way to avoid offending someone no matter what one does.

That said, I don't think its necessary for them to be blatantly doing allegories for Trump (I have considerable sympathy with the Tolkien view on allegories). Rather, they should try to address topics of broad/universal relevance which are applicable to Trump, but also applicable beyond the present circumstances.

Though the classic Ferengi do make a strikingly good comparison for the Donald- ugly, orange, misogynists obsessed with money and naked women.

He's also obsessed with petty revenge though, which, in canon, is a rare trait among the Ferengi. Remember, the Ferengi looked down on that one Damon who was obsessed with trying to destroy Picard.

Star Trek gave up effective political critique shortly after TNG's second season, a handful of DS9 episodes excepted. There won't be any mention of Trump, and if there is it'll be pretty weak.

Actually I don't think Ferengi are against revenge; the issue the other Ferengi had with Bok was that there was no proffit to be had in his revenge against Picard. That said, there's probably little if no profit to be had in Trump's attempts at revenge, so your point still stands I guess.

Of course, the other problem is that Discovery is happening before TOS, so we can't have any Ferengi anyway. I always got the impression that the show was pretty far along and was following an arc, so throwing in a character to blast Trump is impractical anyway.
