That made my heart happy actually. Like they clearly made the effort to not otherwise interfere (all though one of the aliens saw them so in Star Trek that probably means he starts a religion around them and ruins the culture or something ... rather than being dismissed as a crazy person), but they went out of their way to save those people.
And the fact it pissed off the kind of people that try to justify all those people Janeway and Picard doomed angry was just icing on the cake.
