She did, and it had nothing to do with Jafar. Those complaints are more recent. At the time there was criticism of her extreme figure and how it was physically improbable.
Given how many people now have such distorted expectations that they were fat shaming Taylor Swift because she was now merely very fit instead of dangerously underweight from literal anorexia (and similar things for many many other people) those criticisms were probably on to something...

There are also people who relentlessly trolled Adele when she lost weight because that was somehow being a traitor to "real" women or some such crap.

We must ignore the extremes on both sides and aim for the middle ground. Too thin is dangerous, too fat is dangerous. Neither should be glorified.

The sad thing is though that corporations are often more sympathetic to this sort of thing nowadays than regular people. Look at actress who plays Tilly on DISCO. She wouldn't have been cast in Old Trek I promise you that. The major problem we now face for both boys and girls is Instagram and the easy availability of Photoshop. Everyone is now jacked, stacked or improbably flawless and kids lack the ability to understand the difference.

It's more a matter of the school yard coming into the social internet landscape. Social media age brought upon a fusion of normies and internet dweeb culture where people have an identity on their computer, and it's gotten developed to the point where high school can run its thing on this medium we romp on.

To be fair, one thing that the Moral Majority has been criticized for now that we have more access to their interior memos and leaks is the fact that a lot of concerned parents, megachurches, and other folk aren't actually sincere in their witch hunts. They go out looking for popular things to attack in order to get air time and make controversy.

Plus, they don't want their kids realizing that there are other options besides "dealing with their parents' bull". That's also part of why they hate public/higher education.

I think the most informative one of these was finding out that during DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS the cartoon.

Apparently, the writers were informed that they needed to enforce group conformity and obedience to the decisions of the many with individualism criticized.

So Eric was always wrong.

The writers were just like, "Where the fuck did THAT attitude come from?"

Those types were probably heavy on Israel as well for a long time.

"Eric we have decided to murder 500 innocent children to grind for EXP."

"THAT'S WRONG!"

"Eric you said it in a whiny voice so you are clearly in the wrong. Everyone, bring your lawnmowers, we're gonna level up!"
Science Fiction is a genre where anything can happen. Just make sure what happens is enjoyable for yourself and your audience.

Disco era Trek has made an effort of bringing in a wider variety of women than Old Trek did. Disco more so than Picard or SNW though. Offhand I do not remember anyone like Tilly in Old Trek.

I cannot make the same observation about the men though. They seem to be still casting men in the same body type as before. It's not like they have a movie era Scotty sized man yet.

That is just me though.
I got nothing to say here.

Your typical Star Trek man starts well built and then is allowed to become chunky. And apart from the infamous behind the scenes stories of Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill when they put on a spare tyre, the production staff never really seemed to mind. Meanwhile the only women who were allowed to get larger in Old Trek were those that started beautiful and then reached the menopause.

There is definitely a way to go on both sides. I would say though that Starfleet being ''not a military but absolutely is a military despite what Gene says'' probably has fitness requirements. It wouldn't make much sense in-universe to go too far beyond Tilly's body shape unless for a specific reason. Scotty only started to pile it on a bit after he semi-retired in TWOK as an example. The whole plot of that film was that they were all being kicked upstairs to allow a crew of younger and fitter people to take over - which is actually kind of amusing when you take into account TUC and NEM but there you go.
