Dark Elves in Anime are nothing like The Drow

My preferred explanation for Dark Elves isn't they're a different species or anything, it's just that Elves use Dark as a synonym for Fascist, so Dark Elves are just Elven Supremacists. No difference in physiology, just a bunch of racist assholes.

My second thought, after D&D, is the Altmeri Dominion of The Elder Scrolls, who have gone Third Reich by the time of Skyrim, secret police and everything. That is, until I remembered that they are the "High" Elves, with a skin tone closer to a pale yellow then a dark purple. They count, otherwise.

Yeah, that tracks with my idea of Dark Elves. My preferred Elves care about skin tone as much as we care about eye color. On the other hand, "Humans are dogs, Dwarves are Rats, and Orcs are fleas!"

If you brought back the old Norse terminology you could have both types of Dark Elves in the same story, with The Drow as the Svartalfar and these Record of Lodoss War style Dark Elves as the Dokkalfar.
