I mean it's one of the few clever ideas of the game.

I'd say that game has several clever ideas just poorly executed and, again I can't stress this enough, that's on EA's hands not the people who worked on this game. The fact that it went from a single player game to a multiplayer game to a live-serves game then back to a single player game with little to no real time to flesh out any of it's ideas is 100% on EA.

The fact that EA is blaming the game's poor sales on it not being multiplayer just adds insult to injury though I do like how just about everyone regardless if they liked or disliked the game collectively told EA to shove it.

EA sucks and has killed bioware, yeah.

But for Varric's death, I feel like it does at least go a decent way to restoring some of the game's teeth. Dragon Age 2 was the darkest the series went but Origins was built on being Dark Fantasy. Inquisitor just felt like it massively dialed back on that darkness and I feel that losing Varric after two games of him was a good way of reinforcing stakes and giving a half-way decent revelation.
