Re: Will The Disney Star War Sequel Trilogy Stand the Test of Time
When they said Legends was non-canon, what those assholes meant was "it's secondary to the movies, so fuck any layers of canon that had been built up, we'll eject it all, and bring in new supplementary material to hype up our movies to make more money." I HATE that. Again, it's sacrificing art for corporatism and greed.

If they truly are intending to somehow revisit Legends, it's because they see that strategy failed, so they wanna throw the old Legends fans a bone. The new EU is a joke now Last Jedi supposedly contradicted it in a massive way. At least according to WoG, again. I haven't watched a single movie since 2015, and I don't intend to unless it's Legends material.

I'm not sure they contradicted it in a "massive" way but they were certainly hinting that there was some great ancient evil that had awoken and was calling Palpatine to the Unknown Regions, as well as Thrown (being a Chess, from those regions) being aware of it, kind of a substitute Yuuzhan Vong in terms of being a mysterious threat that both Palpatine and Thrawn were concerned about.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 10:44 pm If they truly are intending to somehow revisit Legends, it's because they see that strategy failed, so they wanna throw the old Legends fans a bone. It really seemed like they were building Snoke up to be some ancient Dark Lord who had been trapped or asleep for millennia but awoke around the time of the films, saw the rise and fall of the Empire, and then summoned the remnants of it following the rise of the New Republic to the Unknown Regions where he took it over and reformed it into the First Order.
Then Rian Johnson killed him off in a joking manner, so Thrawn and Palpatine had their stories quickly wrapped up and their mysterious threats written off as dangerous aliens or something.
They never really established for certain that Snoke was indeed what they were building up towards, but it seems very likely that's what they were trying to do. What Johnson did didn't contract that per say, but badly undermined it since nobody would take him seriously as Space Sauron anymore and any payoff they planned would have been pointless.
I haven't read any of the new canon either, so don't my word as Gospel or anything, but that's the impression I've been getting from summaries and spoilers at least.

Yeah I was curious where Snoke came from. I thought that he was actually a really big dude and had to be hiding in a mountain or something.
At the very least, you would think that Yoda would have kept this guy in consideration as a threat. But aside from that, it's not apparent that anyone knew there was some guy who could force manipulate people through holograms to mop the floor.
Side note, watching the film again for the second time a few days ago, Snoke isn't even in it until his capital demise scene. He reeeeally didn't get as much screen service as Sidious.

Yeah, Snoke is no Yuuzhan Vong.
Wait until we reach the "Force is magic" levels on par with Mickey Mouse that's coming in the near future. Mark my words, it's inevitable.

It always was magic though lets be honest. You can cloak what it is using other words, but it is magic in all but name.

That's because Snoke is their to serve the character of Kylo Ren, why do you thing that all his dialogue in TFA was purely functional?BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jan 05, 2019 12:23 am Yeah I was curious where Snoke came from. I don't know. I'm not sure how to interpret purely functional.
