Now I've seen it, I can't unsee it - it's a Wesley Crusher shirt.

This? This looks like what a Blue Peter presenter in 1980 would wear.
Fair enough, as a matter of personal preference, but like I said, this isn't without precedent. Its less goofy that Colin Baker's, and comparable to or just slightly more goofy than Sylvester McCoy's or Tom Baker's, in my opinion.

A new iteration of the Doctor has a somewhat silly-looking outfit.

Come on now. Doctor Who fans aren't that bad. Okay, maybe a little.

This costume is awful though. With the exception of the clown outfit and 9's street leathers the Doctor has always worn something not far off a quirky upper-class British gentleman or school teacher would wear. Whether it's the night out to the opera outfit, cricket jersey, of the "I need to go inspect the grounds but it's chilly so I'll wear my favourite jumper" getup.

9 actually got a lot of complaints from the classic fandom when the new series dropped for straying from the old formula and 6's has been universally reviled.

When you see 13's outfit I'm not getting a quirk British Lady or Schoolteacher vibe. More a "someone else has to dress me in the morning" vibe.

Missy managed to pull off a much better look.

When's the last time you saw an upper-class British gentleman wearing a sweater with a thousand question marks embroidered all over it?

Or bright red sneakers paired with a suit.

Or a piece of celery pinned to his shirt?

Or a ten mile long scarf?

There's usually at least one guy like that at the end of the bar in every small village pub in England.

I don't even think the costume is that goofy. Maybe the most goofy of the modern era.
The press release photo is poorly made from one perspective in that it makes her look 15ft tall as the TaRDiS appears to be only 4-6ft behind her.

You'd lose that bet

Just do a google search for Yorkshire pub. Add one minor quirky thing to the guy in the tweed jacket and you have a potential doctor outfit.
British eccentricity is a thing. You should see the wonderful array of colourful scarfs that have appeared at my local now people have an excuse to wear them.

The major thing that is the wading trousers that are pulled up too high with the suspenders. The jacket 's good, the shirt is doesn't go with it but isn't a complete loss. It's just that whole trousers/suspenders ensemble. I guess someone in wardrobe has an ankle fetish.

If you could add a smart shirt, some decent trousers, this would be pretty good.

Every piece of that costume is alright in isolation. They seem an odd mix together, but one that I expect will grow on me over time, as I get used to it.
