I always wonder with assertions like that. Is it true, or is that just the current trend in media and people watch it because most people will watch what's available? Is the tail wagging the dog?
It's certainly not what I want to watch 24/7, but then my tastes have never aligned with the "mainstream audience".

There must be some reason it got popular. I think it's one of the major draws of Game of Thrones. One thing I really want to see is more explorations of the First Federation and the Gorn. Also the Tholians too. We know so little about them all.
