Not what I was arguing.
My point is simply, as I said, that black people do not represent a single homogenous culture in either world.
Who is getting offended in the US?
That'd be the "Alt. Right" (when any attention is paid to women and minorities). And, in response, activists promoting the interests and rights of those groups.
You know, the primary social disputes of American politics.
Denzel if one the few remaining bankable movie stars.
IA few praiseworthy exceptions do not invalidate an overall trend, which is that their are fewer (even proportionally) major minority stars.
I don't give a fuck if that some people is 10000 or 100000, it must be a fairly insignificant number.
Try "millions".
Alright again,. what difference did it make that she is a female or will make?
In some ways, quite a lot. It'll make a difference to how some people treat you in the real world, certainly (more in some countries than others).
In a Star Wars film... it
shouldn't matter, and that's the point. Part of what I
like about Rey and Jyn is that they're treated as protagonists just like any other, without making a big deal (in-universe) out of their gender, or heavily sexualizing them. It subtly sends the message that women are equal to men, and can be heroes in this kind of film just as much as men can, without beating the audience over the head with the point.
For some reason, that seems to bother you. Why does it seem that having women and minorities on screen-who don't fill "traditional" roles is seen as offensive or annoying to you? I thought treating everyone the same, without making a big deal out of their race/gender, was what the "anti-political correctness" people always claimed they wanted? Or was that really just a smoke screen for "ignore the issues, and keep them in their place?"
Because (and I apologize if I've misunderstood you) it seems to me that if a film makes an issue out of a character's race or gender, you'll complain about that, and if it doesn't, then you'll say their's no reason to include a character from that race or gender, and one cannot help getting the impression that what you really want is for no female or minority characters or actors to be included unless they fit into narrow "traditional" roles.
It's not going to be free if it's delegitimized or something? What not free press am i legitimizing at the same time? I wish i was whinning and not stating a fact.
I was alluding to the constant attacks (for decades, but escalating under Trump) by the Right on the media, with the aim of either pressuring media into conforming with their views in an attempt to avoid accusations of bias, or delegitimizing, in the mind of the public, any media that does not promote their views. It has created a toxic and increasingly authoritarian culture where the press is now publicly described as the enemy by the government.
Though I admit this is not really the topic of this thread, and apologize for the diversion.
The end result is your Asian not white characters acting without motivation.
I don't quite understand your point here.
Just watch people turn on it as better and better SW movies will emerge. Just wait...
We'll see.
It had its flaws, certainly. But their is a contingent of the fan base that's predisposed to hate anything that isn't the OT (and then whine when they make a film with a plot following that of the OT).
