Re: Kathleen Kennedy says there's no source material for Star Wars
"Pretending that it continued the story?" It did. You yourself supported canon in another thread. Legends were legitimate stories, handcrafted with great writing, and writing in some ways if it uses intelligent vocabulary is superior to any "official" movie which is merely moving images. Just because you dislike that it continued the story in another "what if" does not mean that it did not. This language is atrocious. "It never mattered." "Those in charge should not be beholden to you." You see why I get so upset at what they've done to Legends fans? And how they encourage fandom elitists to be so beastly towards them? Especially since ironically, clearspira, the Luke you wanted? Is the Legends Luke. Not Last Jedi Luke.

I know that Yuka doesn't like that I say this but I don't care. There is certain way that Legends doesn't matter. As in those were just something meant to be harmless stories and not to be taken as gospel with religious zeal that some fans take them as. Those were never meant to be canon which is why every author had his or her own vision seperate from each other. Just because Lucas gave nod to those doesn't make them any more canon than if he hadn't. So really it only matters to certain small group of fans that can't keep enjoying those without some one from high up declaring those canon.

I'll agree. I'll even say those in charge are for the most part, doing something new. And I've praised them doing something new. I'll even probably grow to like NuCanon once it is no longer canon with the next reboot and thus no longer "official." That said, if they really are salesmen, and not artists, which is my contention, then their language is still awful, regardless. When you say Star Wars had no source material, hell, ignoring Legends, it also ignores that Lucas was inspired in his own right. Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, Dune, the New Gods of Jack Kirby, old WWII dogfights, Flash Gordon, and so much more. Surely we can agree on that? Their language is pathetic? Especially since I've held them up against Toei, who do include their non-canon material in all other products past the main story. And that's why they are a smarter business, in the end.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy says there's no source material for Star Wars
Winter himself is dying for a Legends adaptation, and Kennedy by her own admission seems willing to do an "Old Republic" project that has me rolling my eyes. So, when they release an Old Republic movie or TV show, where does it belong? Is it Legends or NuCanon? Does it have greater priority over the games or novels assuming it draws heavily from them? Does NuCanon take precedent over Legends in this case just because this is the latest "official" Old Republic material? When does it stop that we place priority on something over another? I mean, the new novels, with that logic, don't matter now or in the next reboot, even though I consider them part of the larger world of the reboot.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy says there's no source material for Star Wars
Yeah, in the 90's there was a clear difference between how Star Wars and Star Trek handled the ancillary material. In Star Trek non of the novels were ever canon to any degree at all. But in Star Wars, they were a kind of canon, subordinate to the films, but still official and interconnected. And it was my impression that while making the prequels, Lucas did say he retained the right to override some EU stuff if he felt he had to, he tried not to do so unnecessarily.
From Disney's perspective, I can see why this is difficult. How could you make sequels that try to take into account everything from the EU?
What I have been anticipating is that fans would start referring to the "Disney Canon" itself as a lesser, subordinate canon to the original 6 films, equal in power to the legends eu but not exceeding. That is to say, demote the disney material so that it is not true, definitive canon. I may be wrong, but I haven't seen fans do this yet. They treat the disney canon as authoritative, while railing against it for ruining the canon.

They need better organization for canon, period. And they don't care. They're "in the business of making movies" that "billions of people will see," so they don't got time for that! Again, you wanna reboot the EU, fine. Most people never checked it out. To them, there's only the six movies. But you can do so in a way that doesn't invalidate that corner of the fandom. Single them out and dismiss them. It's this poor language that's a problem, and since they are incompetent salesmen (the worst kind, next to used car salesman!
) then I don't see this stopping any time soon.

They literally just stuck a label on the old stuff saying which continuity it belonged to. They didn't even take it out of print.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy says there's no source material for Star Wars
If that's the case, then why don't they work on it? The Legends fandom's reaction makes it clear it is in demand, and I don't buy it's getting drowned among the hate from the loudest voices. I think it's an issue of time. That's why the movies suffered too much in short bursts on an annual basis. That's why there's no time to give Legends fans even a small bit of material, since it does have the advantage of having been done. Surely we can agree their approach to leadership here has been poor? Like Bob Iger not admitting they're pushing the movies back to two years because they released too much in such a short amount of time? He revealed that in a way to save face. That's poor leadership. I think we could all agree on that.
