You'd have to elaborate on liberals thinking it can't be better.
..What mirror universe?

I dunno, Lincoln and the Civil War era Republicans abolished slavery and that's pretty radical. Defining them as anything besides Liberals seems wrong.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 6:13 amFor individuals in the framework that currently exists, but meaningfully changing that framework is almost always shot down as too radical.

What i find interesting about your idea is that the phrase was originally ''truth, justice and the American way''. Its this difference in mission statement that A) makes me think that you are probably right and B) shows the difference in thinking of the American people between the 20th and 21st century. The Greatest Generation and the Boomers thought that ''the American way'' and ''a better tomorrow'' were actually one and the same.phantom000 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 3:23 amI think Superman is how we Americans, as a nation, want to be perceived by the rest of the world. We want to be the big strong super hero swooping in to save the day like we did back in WWII. "Truth, Justice and a better tomorrow" I think is America trying to come to terms with the fact that we haven't always been hero.BBally81 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 5:45 pm An article I've written about the discourse regarding Superman's status as an American icon vs a Global icon has been uploaded on the Superman Homepage.

You know what, that's fair, radical liberals will oppose domestic feudalism and slavery.TGLS wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 1:56 pmI dunno, Lincoln and the Civil War era Republicans abolished slavery and that's pretty radical. I mean the motto Truth, Justice, and the American way started as War propaganda during the 1940s.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 3:35 pmWhat i find interesting about your idea is that the phrase was originally ''truth, justice and the American way''. Also if there is one generation that doesn't believe in a better tomorrow it's the Boomers because they have done everything in thier power to prevent it.

That's not fair: the Baby Boomers are very interested in a better tomorrow... for themselves.
In fact, they're extremely interested in themselves, as a general rule.

Only because of the term 'modern', an ever-shifting goalpost.
Try looking up the suffragettes. They were shockingly hardcore, despite wearing layers and layers of fluffy, ground-length dresses.

I think that sentiment is reminiscent of western colonialism. They believed they were the greatest civilization in the world and so the best thing for mankind is to become exactly like them. I think the counter culture of the 1960's was a rejection of this idea of America and the West as the pinnacle of human civilization and that being American didn't automatically make you a hero. This seemed to be confirmed during the Vietnam War when Americans were committing war crimes to defend a corrupt regime against it's own people. Since then, the idea of America being the hero hasn't vanished completely but it hasn't shined as brightly has it did in the past.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 3:35 pmWhat i find interesting about your idea is that the phrase was originally ''truth, justice and the American way''.
