Can we just go back to talking about a teenager getting superpowers? Please?!
Going back on topic, according to flixpatrol Ms. Marvel has been Disney+'s number 1 title in several markets like the US, the UK, Japan, Italy, Brazil and South Korea. While flixpatrol doesn't completely represent the actual numbers of viewings or sales, they are based on the popularity ranking coming directly from the streaming platforms.

Also according to a number Twitter pals of mine from Indonesia, the show is pretty popular over there.

The ratings for this series have not met Disney's expectations. My evidence for this being the delay in announcing season 2. Successful shows have no delay because ''money, dear boy.'' If this show had been a smash hit we would have gotten the announcement halfway through season. I'm not saying it won't happen, but there is obvious hesitation.

It is my opinion that Marvel made a serious mistake with the execution of this character in that she would have been far better off having her introduction in Captain Marvel 2. That way they could have gotten straight into her series as opposed to having to set it up over several episodes before we got to any actual superhero stuff. And what didn't help was the dramatic shift of her move set and origins which necessitated such a lengthy introduction because otherwise even the seasoned comic book fans would not know what is going on.

It is also my opinion that modern audiences have soured to the origin story taking too long. They want to get into the ass-kicking asap. MCU Spider-Man really is the perfect example of how to do this properly: Tony Stark goes around to Peter's house, he is already Spider-Man, lets go.

At the end of the day, Phase 1 was a completely different beast to Phase 4. Superhero fatigue really has started to become a thing now and shows that take too long to reach its pay off - such as this one - is starting to become less tolerated. I wonder how The Dark Knight would have fared today?

I think the origin is fine, it the story along with the origin that is problem. The origin is two episodes tops and the rest isn't given enough room.

I still don't understand Disney's logic of releasing new episodes on the same day a new Kenobi episode came out. You'd think they would want to give a show starring a less established character being played by an unknown teen actress some breathing room in order to get more viewers.

I mean I'm assuming they want you to watch one after the other.

She's a mutant that needs a magic bracelet to use her powers(?)

Anyone else think that there was a rewrite halfway through the season?

No, the Bangle activated her power. The show really keeps emphasizing Kamala doesn't need the bangle to use her power.

OK, fair enough. But the idea of "activating" the X-gene is... interestingly canon breaking. It is one way to explain how mutants come about I guess.
