Like my first thought was American Princess. The daughter of the President. But I am pretty damned sure that was done already. Just can't place it. Mind you I don't watch those types of movies.

Warrior Amazon Princess came to mind before I instantly remembered that character is called Wonder Woman.

Thinking maybe a Victorian Disney Princess that grew up from the slums. But still trying to figure that one out without it being a Mulan copy or too Disney of old where she finds a prince and finds happiness or something. Nowadays, the princess has to find agency within herself and not because a man rescued her. Or you have to write an intelligent script to make that work.
Maybe something closer to Cinderella instead of Mulan? And maybe instead of the past put her in the future? How about a cyberpunk princess, that could be awesome!
I was thinking steam punk. Maybe a princess who has a lab that messes around with the latest tech of the day. Makes inventions.

Or she is poor but still has some lab.

Both times she is a girl and not messing around with such things, father will find her a good man. Blah blah.

Kinda hard honestly to do something original.
As Chuck said in one of his reviews (I can't remember which one), originality is about taking different elements and fitting them together. I mean if you think about it Cinderella, Aladdin, and The Princess and The Frog basically the same story just with the elements shifted around.

Maybe she's a mechanic with her own shop and buildings racing machines for a competition and she's really good but is held back because she has to use low quality parts, have the movie open with a race that she almost wins until she suffers a breakdown and loses. Then she meets an upper class young man who likes racing but he's no good at it so they agree to work together.

Had a similar idea, initially as a Pathfinder PC: the clever princess of a High Fantasy kingdom in a long-stalled war slowly works out firearms and internal combustion, eventually taping into magical energies to become a one-woman magitech Industrial Revolution. All while trying her damnedest to keep from getting married off, partially knowing it'll end her asperations to actually HELP her people, and partially being unable to muster any interest in her suitors. Aro/Ace Gunslinger/Inventor Princess!

There's also my adaptation of the Land of Oz (pick up Andrew Kolb's "OZ: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting", it's really good and where my ideas started) where Dorothy becomes Knight Consort to Princess Ozma, whose more Tomboy-ish here for reasons that are VERY obvious if you've read "The Marvelous Land of Oz". Them being a couple is also obvious if you've read the early books. Baum depicted those two as being SO close, it really makes me wonder if he was doing it on purpose. I mean, look at this illustration from the fifth book, "The Road to Oz".

I rest my case.
