Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
I'm not too worried about the age thing. If Christopher Plummer, General Chang himself, can handle reshooting an entire movie in two weeks while pushing 90, I'm sir Patrick Stewart can handle a couple of episodes of sitting in the big chair and giving orders.
Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
This seems to be the primary (and often only) reason needed these days.
I worry that he has creative control here, and there's no one to tell him that the same kind of ideas he had that dragged down Insurrection and Nemesis aren't welcome.
Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
I'm all for a post-Star Trek: Nemesis series but do we really need Patrick Stewart involved.
Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
They're gonna ruin Picard. Not that I lament that.
We can then get things in their proper place with everyone talking Kirk vs Sisko from now on.

A better one would be to present people with a different outlook and drive, but ultimately the same ideals that are divided by bad blood for the time being, but are natural allies. Make it contain facets of the historic relationship the US had with Britain, two people divided by more than just a common language.
Presenting the secessionists as rough around the edges, nasty in places but ultimately their hearts are in the right place while the Fed is world weary, plagued by doubt and disliking their role as hegemon of the Alpha Quadrant but still good people in their own way is, IMO a kinda show our times need.

That brings to mind only one thing... and not even Picard deserves that...clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 1:37 pm Patrick Stewart is a very old man. I have no pleasure in saying that, aging is a tragic thing. But, nevertheless, its true. Those of you envisioning some grand last adventure for Picard are going to be very disappointed. Whatever this product is, it is going to be ''Captain Picard sits in a chair'' mixed with ''Captain Picard hobbles slowly down a corridor.'' And I will remind those willing to jump on me for pointing that out that Chuck himself noted that the TNG crew seemed too old for the roles in Nemesis... and that film is 16 years old.

That's the worst they could do with such a situation.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 1:37 pmAnd, not going to lie, but the timing of this and his anti-Brexit activism is also suspect. I have a nasty feeling there is going to be some ''one part of the Federation breaks away from the other and that is evil'' plot.

I'd prefer another jump by 40-50 years where the TNG is looked on the way WWII is/was in the 90s where figures from that era are looked on as icons in a deeper way than just the fawning adoration of the likes of Kirk, but as embedded figures in history like Archer was supposed to. Most of all Sisko and his role in the Dominion War, topped off by his mysterious disappearance making him practically a saintly martyr in many Federation/Secessionists eyes.
Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
Honestly, American provincialism would prevent that version from coming to the screen. The Federation is Space America. Secessionists draws to mind the American Civil War, and the secessionists were bad guys in that one.Beastro wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 2:56 am That's the worst they could do with such a situation.

Midnight's Edge on Youtube has some interesting informed rumours if anyone is interested. TL;DR it's a quasi-reboot.
Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
Amusing thought, Picard is brought back in a survival chair like OST Pike and can only beep at us. I think some fans would spontaneously combust.
We must dissent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwqN3Ur ... l=matsku84

I think i heard some conspiracy theory that RJ hated Hamill and he hated him back and it was some sort of symbolism involving blowjobs.Quixotica wrote: ↑Tue Aug 07, 2018 5:50 pm
A bit OT but I never understood why that bothered people. Luke started as a country bumpkin farmer and ended as a slightly less bumpkinish country farmer. As someone who grew up in a similar if more Earth-bound situation.. well yeah that's exactly where you get your milk from. More than one mornings hearty breakfast was literally as fresh as you can get. Was also a nice bit of world building since it showed both how he's been living and gave insight into his character all without exposition. Also that scene with his Nephew was among Luke's best in the franchise but that's another thread.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 6:32 pmI assume you are referring to Luke. As one of those salty fans, I can promise you that as long as Picard doesn't drink straight from the boobs of a space cow and try to murder his nephew in his sleep I can live with him.MrL1992 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 4:45 pmEnterprising wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 8:18 amThe word Chuck used was tired, which is different and more accurate. The TOS cast did their roles nearly double that amount of time, it can be done if it's made well and kept fresh. Patrick Stuart himself has shown far more energy & bounce in subsequent roles after Trek. Particularly in X-Men, I couldn't believe most of those movies were made after Nemesis. I personally thought Stuart looked pretty much finished after that, but then in those other projects he just looked much more energised and interested.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 1:37 pm Patrick Stewart is a very old man. As for the project itself, I hope it is back to a return of the TV Picard we all know and love. Instead of that crying, angry, violent and rally-car driving madman we saw in the movies.
He said he'll be a different Picard, changed over 20 extra years worth of experiences. And tyats a key factor that motivated him to come back. The most natural course of action I'd say (I happen to love Picard in First Contact).
So if the pattern continues from a certain other major franchise's character and their change after many years, there's going to be a lot of salt and some fans complaining forever and never letting it go. Not looking foreard to that!

Re: New Star Trek series staring Sir Patrick Stewart
I wonder if they'll address the irumodic syndrome (space Alzheimer's) proclivity they gave Picard in All Good Things.
2019 will be 25 years since All Good Things first aired. They already said that he won't be Picard as we knew him. Maybe he'll be wandering around in his bathrobe telling Spot's great-to-the-nth-grandcat to "make it so."PICARD: Good Lord, Geordi. Well, how long has it been?
LAFORGE: Nine years.
PICARD: No, no, no. Since you last called me Captain, since we were all together on the Enterprise?
LAFORGE: Close to twenty five years.

If they had the guts to do it, awesome. But that is not what I see from what I have learned so far.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 5:35 pm I wonder if they'll address the irumodic syndrome (space Alzheimer's) proclivity they gave Picard in All Good Things.
