I always took the parsec comment to be Solo bullshitting them. Never saw the need for an official explanation for it.

As written in the fourth draft: "Ben reacts to Solo's stupid attempt to impress them with obvious misinformation."

Yeah except with Star Wars, canon really depends solely on what you see on screen.

Yukaphile wrote: Thu Jan 17, 2019 1:26 am I haven't seen those movies in years. Wasn't pleased they made the Nazi villain a woman in Last Crusade, but in their defense, she seems to not wanna go as far as the men do. And some people still want to insist German women were criminals. Idiots.
There are plenty of Nazi women who committed heinous crimes, such as serial rapist and sadist Ilse Koch, wife of the Kommandant of Buchenwald and the nastier and more psychopathic of the two (which is saying a lot, given what a foul little toady Karl-Otto Koch was).

Anyway, the thing with Indiana Jones is it's retro-pulp aesthetically and story wise, so he fights stock enemies who the audience doesn't have to sympathize with. Thus, Nazis, Teh Evul Reds, Evool Cultists, stuff like that. They are there to be expendable meat for the 2 or 3 memorable bad guys (Belloq, Shirtless Nazi Mechanic, creepy SS Himmler-wannabe, Mola Ram or whatever his name was (screaming heart-ripping cultist dude), Big Thuggish Cultist Dude, the blonde, 5th columnist business asshole, Cate Blanchett, Cate Blanchett's big Russian henchgoon, etc.), and are part of pulp baddie goon factories so that the protagonists and audience don't have to feel too bad about Indy killing and assaulting people.

And if I have another problem with it, I shall post about it in my thread in General Discussion. Anyway, go on with the discussion please.

I'll say this, that opening is the opposite of subtle, but there is ONE subtle thing that the opening does establish, which I had forgotten about until just now. The dog (which gave Indiana his name) was shown, and for about 1.5 seconds. THAT'S an Easter Egg, since you'll only recognize the significance of it after the end of the film, when Henry says, "We named the DOG Indiana."

I was going to bring that up ironically as something to hate, and it in turn turns out to be the one thing you liked.

Also the dog didn't name Henry Indiana, Henry just kinda took it upon himself to do that.

Unsubtle??? True Nazis are the bad guys, Ministry of the bleeding Obvious.

Indiana Jones is nicknamed after the Dog, likewise John Wayne, the Duke is nicknamed after a Dog named Duke.

Evil Nazi Women are a real Historical thing. But in movies where the Good Guys win the rules for sexy nazi women are more complex: eg if she is only a BIT nazi, that is OK-ish kinda sorta.
