Politics is inseperable from entertainment and the original had some commentary on class warfare, but I agree about the Trump Devil. At this point in life we want to go to movie theaters to get away from...things like that. Evil Trump characters were funny in the 80s and 90s because he was just a reality TV star and failed businessman. Doing it today would...upset the horror-comedy balance. =sZoinksberg wrote: ↑Mon Jan 21, 2019 6:58 pm Eh, it would have been funny today if they had made it in the 90's and we could look back at the devil being Trump. But making it now and making it topical will just ruin it. They tried doing that with 2016, doing reshoots to insert jokes about them being harassed online for being women and it was easily the worst jokes in a film with plenty of choose from.
Don't throw politics in to Ghostbusters. Except for commenting on the lack of genitalia EPA employees have, that has always been fair game.

I don't regularly follow entertainment news, so I treat everything as pure rumor...but FFS. Media reports suggest Ghostbusters 3 revolves around 4 teens.
Unless it's a teen/kids movie (Twilight) I hate, hate, hate making teens the protagonists for adult films. Kids want to be Indiana Jones or Darth Vader or James Kirk. They don't want to be Wesley Crusher.
rant over.

I mean, quite a few college students are teens. So that rumor could be true and still not about kids. Maybe Columbia reopened their Paranormal Studies program?

I read 12 and 13 year olds. If they're side characters or a flashback that's fine. If they're trying to turn Ghostbusters into Stranger Things I will be less than delighted.

Extreme Ghostbusters (depsite the oh-so-nineties name) was quite an exceptional continuation/passing the torch show. It did the Next Generation thing pretty well, and told really well-written episodes. I think it holds up much better even today than the original Ghostbusters animated show did. It's not the worst idea they could do as a follow-up, even though I know we all have a (justifiable) knee-jerk reaction against it.

You're not the first person I've seen referencing Extreme Ghostbusters as a direction they'd like to see the franchise go, and I won't disagree. I think Kylie in particular seems to have hit it off with fans, even making it into IDW's Ghostbusters comics in modified form.Deledrius wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 4:15 am Extreme Ghostbusters (depsite the oh-so-nineties name) was quite an exceptional continuation/passing the torch show. I'm glad to hear she's stuck around. She was a good character (they all were, IMO). I think the saddest thing is that not more fans of the franchise seem to have been aware of it. IIRC, the airing schedule was weird and it's never had a DVD release in the USA.

I LOVE extreme ghostbusters! That "The Real Ghostbusters" cartoon was just...visually unappealing to me for some reason. Something was off with it.
Extreme Ghostbusters, on the other hand, took the Batman TAS approach to horror. "If the censors won't let you kill somebody, then make sure you do something even scarier". Remember that episode with the demon who made minions out of human bones? Took them from living people...and those people were STILL ALIVE AFTER THEIR BONES HAD BEEN REMOVED. Plus we had PG-rated Hellraiser.

Just an aside, but Hulu has Extreme Ghostbusters in the U.S. I don't know about other countries.

Just had a chuckle when thinking about the cast of Extreme Ghostbusters. Think about it. You have a prominent latino lead-character, a black everyman's-man, a disabled white man and a plucky and indipendent goth-chick and the wise old white man Egon. Ticks all the boxes, doesn't it? Patriarchy, man-splaining, under-representiation of women, inclusivity of minorities and women, everything, all at the same time in one package. Heads would explode if this series was released today, as this show is both SJW and anti-SJW at the same time.
