Yukaphile, if nobody gave TNG a chance during its troubled first season then the Trek franchise would have never grown the way it has. And as we've seen with ENTERPRISE, when the ratings plummet the studio then believes the Trek brand is no longer viable and puts it on ice indefinitely. This is why fans "boycotting" is so utterly pointless, but then again a lot of fans like those are really petty and childish. Like Star Wars fans that want the prequels erased from "canon".

I wouldn't mind seeing the SW prequels erased from canon, personally. The stuff hinted at in the Thrawn trilogy seemed way more interesting than what we got.

@Makeshift Pylon That comparison is specious. Imagine if Maurice Hurley or Gene Roddenberry had stayed in charge for all seven seasons? It most definitely would have been canceled long before it reached the fourth or fifth season. Kurzman is as toxic to STD as they were to TNG. And imagine if for TNG, they said it didn't take place for Trek, but a forgotten Star Wars universe? Think people would be offended? That's the big problem with STD. They should just be honest and say it's a Kelvin Timeline show. It's a Kelvin Timeline show in everything but name, because it's a Prime Universe show in name only.

Frankly I find Star Wars Bounty Hunter to be more interesting then most of the Disney Star Wars Era. I mean I like Rebels but that's mostly due to the show putting character first and borrowing heavily from the Original EU. The films have been putting a lot more emphases on Effects on props then they have with any of the characters or the lore of SW. And I'm being serious about that as there more thought was put into the origin of Han's dashboard dice then Rey's backstory.

But in regards to STD I'm willing to give it at least two more shots as TNG first season was crap, season 2 was better but still not really good and Season 3 was when the show became what we know and love. Also DS9 wasn't always the great show it was as it's first season was filled with hits and misses, Move Along Home anyone, season 2 was better as was season 3 but I don't think the show really hit it's mark until season 4.

At this point I feel that Discovery is better then Enterprise but weaker then Voyager and that is based only on Season 1, still have yet to check out Season 2 though I've heard it's gotten mixed reviews. Hopefully Season 3 is when the show finally pulls it all together, only time will tell.

Back over to SW at this point TDST is just a pale imitation of TOT and now where near as good as TTT or TPT TBH. Say what you will about the Prequels but they at least laid the foundation for some great stories like The Clone Wars. Honestly the biggest flaw of the Prequels is the dialogue if that was better written I am 97.68% certain that the films would be better received. And as I've said before, many times, TDST doesn't hold a candle to TTT, Mara Jade is frankly 1000 times better then every character we have met in the films do date.

@Winter Not if Kurtzman stays on board, and he is. TNG only succeeded because they got better writers. They could have succeeded in Season 1, same as TOS, if they'd had good writers, not Gene and Maurice Hurley, from the get go. But it was Gene's revenge project, so we couldn't have that. So the myth to "give it time" is laughable. The only case that actually applies in modern in Trek is Enterprise, which actually was prompted by ratings plummeting and possible cancellation, so Berman loosened the reins and let others do their thing - and even that didn't help.

They should have just CALLED it a Kelvin Universe prequel. Less backlash. I've even seen people who love STD go, "Come on, bruh, this ain't the same universe that Picard and Kirk and Janeway and Sisko come from, who you fooling?"
