I disagree that there's no distinction.
Artists want to make money, because they can't live and can't make art without it. They also want to make art, and they will make the best art they can afford to make - both in terms of what is available, and in terms of taking risks with profits.
You can always tell, I believe, whether a piece of media was made with artists in control, or business people. The early Pixar movies were all very clearly made with artists at the helm - they took interesting artistic risks, they had very definite and non-generic messages, they were innovative, and they looked great. You could tell when the people in charge changed.

I, disagree, with your concept for artists. Not every artist is good, and even the good ones can make mistakes. Pardon me my memory is a memory. But I think Chuck did a review where he compared a writer getting his chance at a magnum opus. And he did this super detailed western movie with a roller rink and it bored the hell out of people. Because he the artist was so invested in accuracy he told a bland and boring story. But was a golden child before this. Which is why he was green lit with little to no oversight.Frustration wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 9:09 pm I disagree that there's no distinction.

And sometimes those people with the money do help sculpt a better story with their concerns. (And sometimes go right off the rails.) Look at Chuck's review for the making of Back to the Future. On one hand the studio got rid of the suicide and refrigerator concepts and got a car going. They also, at the time, reeled in getting power from an atomic test to a lightning bolt. Artistic changes that worked for the better. The Space man from Pluto thing. . I am so glad Spielburg knew how to handle that kind of cringe.
Re: Eternals: Marvel's lowest rated film to date
Finally saw Eternals.
It's OK. One big thing for me was totally forgetting about the other Eternals until they were brought back later in the film. Like I forgot about the deaf speedster completely and the mind control guy until the 'big break up' scene.
Deviants in the comics from what I remember were not those non descript CGI science fiction monsters we saw. I swear I saw these guys in another film and it's driving me nuts. Their design is so generic. If I remember correctly Thanos is a Deviant to put that in perspective.
The woke aspect that 'many hated' really isn't there. So they made a diverse cast from pretty much every spot on the globe. Wow so woke.
So there is a gay couple that not only has a kid together but they kissed! Oh so woke. Let's put it this way, if you are one of those that say 'I don't mind gay people, as long as it's not in my face' well guess what you are homophobic.
A deaf person? Oh wow so woke! Jesus Christ, can't let the dead community have their own superhero right? I don't know maybe she moves so fast that her ear drums got shredded and that was it.
A woman saved the day over a man? So woke!

I'm pretty sure Jesus is the superhero for both the quick and the dead communities.

What I found so funny is that there's a scene where a man and woman are having sex. Like, not even implied doing the naughty, or shown after the naughty. No, up front, in the middle of doing it on screen for all the world to see, sex. And no one talks about it, it is honestly so minor that no one even talks about it. But two men kiss onscreen, say I love you, and are shown to be happily married, "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!" "Oh this is so FORCED and in your face", "I don't mind gay people but I wish they wouldn't be featured in anything I watch" and my personal favorite "Oh what's next, including sex scenes in Marvel next" aka "I never actually watched the damn film I'm just complaining about it".

Its actually more like: ''I don't mind gay people but I wish they wouldn't be featured in everything I watch.''
A small but distinct difference. And frankly, I don't see why heterosexual people saying that they would rather watch heterosexual people is any different than your ''lets have the entire spectrum represented because I am on that spectrum'' approach. I have seen just as many LGBT people lose their shit that there are too many heterosexuals as there are people like you mocking heterosexuals for losing their shit.

IT almost like they have a big roster and decided not to serve the hetro cis, white normalcy at that plnety of other movies does,
Re: Eternals: Marvel's lowest rated film to date
As have I but the fact of the matter is that the LGBT isn't as featured as often as cisgenders and heterosexuals. And in regards to this point it's the fact that so many people were losing their shit because Eternals not only featured a gay couple with said couple saying they loved each other but had the two kissing onscreen which was seen as to forceful and in your face yet a heterosexual couple having sex onscreen was seen as perfectly fine and no body batted an eye.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 2:34 pm "I don't mind gay people but I wish they wouldn't be featured in anything I watch"

There are LGBT who are insufferable and close minded morons just like there are in EVERY group on the planet but the fact remains that there are literally countless stories that have Heterosexual couples and fewer LGBT romances. The recent surge of LGBT rep is only 7 years old and during that time we've had several good if not great shows, games, comics and novels that many on both sides have praised these stories for their characters and plots.
And yet, Every Time a character comes out as any spectrum of the LGBT comes out it is meant with the same comments "Why can't the gays just stay out of this show" "I was enjoying this until it turned the character gay" "This is so forced, they should have just kept it vague or not have brought it up" "Ugh, another great show ruined by making a character I like gay" "I see (insert studio name here) is giving in to the faggots and making the series woke". I'd like to say that these are exaggeration but, it's not.
Let's pause and look over at Mass Effect for a bit. I brought up the Make Mass Effect Inclusive movement and wondering if BioWare should have included all the SS options they were originally going to have in the games. I'm of the opinion that they should have included it mainly because the only reason it wasn't included originally was because BioWare didn't want to risk the game underselling via News Channels basically review bombing the game. I don't think that every character should be bi and with many it wouldn't change anyone's opinion about said character (Ashley and Jacob would likely still not be well liked) but the option was only removed due to the mentality of the time.
On the flip side, Mass Effect: Andromeda is a (overall) more inclusive game, with more LGBT options, 2 transgenders, religious characters, atheist characters, various (Human) races and the marketing put equal emphasis on both Ryder siblings. It is also considered the second worse BioWare game to date, with many seeing the Ryder's as doormats in human form, the squad mates being rather unlikable jerks who use Ryder for their own goals, the plot that is just a retread of the first game and it's lack of choice. These things, have NOTHING to do with the fact that the game was more inclusive because even if the game was reworked to have it be "less woke" it would still be bad because the problem are the characters and the plot.
If BioWare released a number of patches to restore all SS romantic options to the Trilogy it wouldn't change anything, people would still love it and most wouldn't bat an eye at making characters who were suppose to be bi options for both genders. If the next Mass Effect is a huge critical hit do you honestly think anyone is going to mention that there is an option to play as non-binary? Or gives you equal squad and crew mates that cover every color of the rainbow?
To close this out, Anders in DA2 is an insufferable jerk who steals attention away from the player, Dorian is a fan favorite character who many feel add to the player. One is bi the other is gay and no one cares because what makes you love them or hate them is their characters.
Re: Eternals: Marvel's lowest rated film to date
That's the thing. Clearspira is acting like these are the modern day tokenism characters. The token gay guy or token gay couple.
Think about all the MCU movies even the most recent ones. How many did you see were openly gay? Or implied or it was background information that they might be gay?
Not only that but how many people get angry over someone who is gay or implied gay? So what? At least with Eternals they went full on with actually showing a gay couple as a family with a child.
You get to this point where people who are against this sort of thing, when can a gay couple be shown? Next movie? Nope not that. How about the other one? Nope can't do that. How about the one in 2025? Oh now we are scheduling for a gay couple for some unnamed movie now?
The worse thing is that this gay couple in the Eternals was an important scene. Not because they were gay but because that Eternal was actually motivated to fight for his family he has. This could easily have been a straight male and female couple like all the hundreds of movies out there.

"I want to see nobody that is different from me" and "I want to see at least somebody like me mixed in with the people different from me"? Exactly the same. /sclearspira wrote: ↑Sat Jan 15, 2022 2:34 pm "I don't mind gay people but I wish they wouldn't be featured in anything I watch"
