Ha! And has she actually been given a character in season 2? Because they might as well be asking us to cry over a redshirt.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 5:34 pmJaneway's fantasy funeral but it wanted to be Tasha's.clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 11:40 amI don't watch this dying show any more so I got to ask: that cyborg on the bridge who had no character in season 1 got a massive funeral scene? Where did it come on the Trek funeral scale? Tasha Yar's soppy funeral with the full orchestra, Janeway's fantasy funeral in ''Coda'' where everyone was so cut up they were one step away from committing suicide to go off and join her, or Spock's dignified and iconic torpedo scene with the bagpipes? None of these seem like they should be applied to her.Worffan101 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 2:05 am So the most recent episode was hot garbage all the way through. That death cocktease scene for Burnham (which, don't cocktease me, if you set up that she's about to die have the balls to actually kill the boring jerk) was worse than Tom Paris's death in Threshold. Loud, over-the-top, busy, no dignity.
This whole fucking show is such a fucking mess it's not even funny. The directing varies, but usually comes out on the good side of passable, the acting varies but most of the cast other than Sarek, Ashvoq, and Burnham are at least clearly trying (Sarek is hot garbage, Burnham is bush league, and Ashvoq just has so little to work with STILL that I can't tell if he's a good actor or not), problem is this is trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
The core problem is that the writing is hot garbage and the characters are mediocre. I could do nothing but laugh during cyborg lady's lavish funeral. This show is trying so fucking hard it's blowing out its own goddamn ACL. What the fuck even is this? How could one show be so fucked up?
Y'know what that cyborg in season 1 reminded me of? Sigourney Weaver's character in Galaxy Quest, whose only job was to basically tell everyone what the computer was telling her.

Re: Sta Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
I compare it to if Voyager had killed off Extra Man (Ayala) after nearly two seasons and then treated it like a huge heart wrenching moment. Sure, we have seen him in nearly every episode and even heard him talk a few times, but we had no idea who he was and Airiam was just about as much of a background character. They even tried throwing in her backstory in to the very same episode they killed her in, like they realized suddenly that in 24 episodes we had never even learned what species she was. (For the record, human in a terrible shuttle accident and augmented with cybernetics. Sure beats the hell out of the chair Pike will end up in after a seemingly less severe accident.)clearspira wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2019 5:47 pm Ha! So you are correct, a massive funeral for someone we didn't know but the writers are positive we will be heartbroken to lose.

Oh, the cyborg redshirt?
I dunno, they gave us a whole sob story backstory for her in the episode she died in, but it felt super cheap. And needlessly sob-storyish. I didn't give much of a shit.

Do you guys watch the "previously on" recap? I usually like to skip that kind of stuff, but honestly I don't really remember what happened before.

I skip - a combination of "gimme episode now!" and wanting to take in the story without hints at what's coming; I've found in some shows that keep a lot of balls in the air (Game of Thrones comes to mind) the Previouslies become a sort of thematic spoiler. Oh hey, they're showing us the last thing Jorah did, I wonder who'll turn up this week... So it's become a habit. Title sequences as well (I don't mind Disco's, but I'm not in love with it), aside from one skip-back to catch the writers' names. I only found out second-hand that they modified the titles to make the Red Angel clearer a few episodes back.

So who exactly is this Red Angel? Do we have another Suliban and Xindi on our hands who were galaxy ending threats that were never mentioned ever again because reasons? I'll say this much in STD's defence: if he/she has yet to carve up Florida like a ham then it isn't as bad as ENT in terms of continuity breaking disasters.

Another one who doesn't watch the show and shits on it... Watch the two last episodes and you will know who is the Red Angel.clearspira wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 12:37 pm So who exactly is this Red Angel? I have no intention of watching this crap, that's why i'm asking. And if you were paying attention, I called it *probably* better than ENT in this one specific instance so there's that.Actarus wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 7:17 pmAnother one who doesn't watch the show and shits on it... I noticed that about the Red Angel too and wondered if they added it altogether. I think the titles are very lukewarm. But I totally agree with the previouslies in general.MissKittyFantastico wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 12:10 pm I skip - a combination of "gimme episode now!" and wanting to take in the story without hints at what's coming; I've found in some shows that keep a lot of balls in the air (Game of Thrones comes to mind) the Previouslies become a sort of thematic spoiler. Re: Sta Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
I never understood a lot of continuity issues people had with Enterprise, at least as far as time travel plots are concerned. I mean, it's fucking time travel, do you really need another explanation for why continuity is going bonkers? Time travel plots by their very nature can introduce plot/continuity errors so as long as the story itself is internally consistent to a decent degree or has some kind of thematic point to it I don't think it's a problem.
Something worth complaining about would be like the NX-01 meeting the Ferengi- and it's less that they met the Ferengi, and more that they make the characters act dumb so continuity can be preserved (Archer never bothers asking what species they are etc). The Xindi, on the other hand, are from the onset said to be a group who got a message from a future so they are altering history by attacking Earth. There's two ways you can take this:
1. This had always been part of Trek history, but nobody ever makes mention of it because it hadn't been thought of yet
2. It hadn't existed in the universe before, but now does, because time travel
I don't know why you would choose option 1 when option 2 works just as well (and makes a lot more sense because we know Trek is fiction and not an actual historical record). If you want to say "Xindi plot bad" then that's a different can of worms altogether.
