Another special edition change I loved is the wampa. I loved seeing more of it.
I'll have to dig out the DVDs to check but IIRC there were some comments about the wampa on it, about how not really seeing it produces a bit more suspense. But I agree with you on that one, seeing it upped the stakes by showing it as something for Luke to be scare of.

Still dislike the same things about RotJ that are generally disliked but the Battle of Endor was damned spectacular for that time and still pretty darned good by today's standards.

The Jaws argument. That's fine for personal taste, which Chuck clearly subscribes to (and that it's the Star Wars he grew up with, also from the era of Jaws too), but for me, I don't mind because technically, there is nothing wrong with that, past a person's opinion, and it's the Star Wars I grew up with. :)

I think there is reason why Chuck and many others (me included) look at those changes on case by case basis. While some of those are good changes not all changes are good or bad with there being both kind of changes among those. Bad changes just tend to be ones that are not needed and are just there for sake of having CGI added in unlike good changes that enhance movie. Of course there are also changes that are in middle of those two that do enhance movies but at same time weren't actually needed.

I don't mind Han not shooting first, tbh, but I can see why it irks some people. At the same time, it doesn't feel that bad to me. Probably nostalgia, lol. As to the CGI argument, I don't mind the CGI dewbacks. Or even the CGI effect over the "These aren't the droids you're looking for" sequence. I can admit that technically speaking, the latter is very fake, so while I don't mind it, and like it, I can understand why some would dislike this. The dewbacks, though, just look better.

My issue with changing Han shooting first (actually he was only one who shot) is that it goes against his character at that point. He was still smuggler living in harsh Galaxy trying to survive so it's only natural that he would shoot guy who wanted to kill him when he still had chance. It really showed that he was willing to do what ever it took to survive morals to be damned. It was only during story that he started to see things differently and become hero who cares about others besides of just his best friend Chewie.

I don't care about the character aspects, so much as the logic. How the hell could he dodge that blaster bolt that fast? Maybe if Greedo was further away, sure. If that could be better explained, I would accept it better.
