On the upside, at least the 'next week' preview of the Ice Warrior episode looked good.

The entire thing seemed like an interesting concept ruined by scrappy execution and a stupid "power of love" ending.

Unfortunately, the new season of Who has started to bore me.

I wonder where Gatiss gets his ideas?

That's more like it. I've been an Ice Warrior fan since way back when I had a VHS of 'Seeds of Death', loved their transition from 'monsters' to allies for Jon Pertwee... didn't so much like the whole out-of-suit CGI lizardman thing in 'Cold War', but this was spot on. And Alpha Centauri, good times.

That final shot, though... wow, just the level of nerve-twanging unease. I am loving Michelle Gomez so much.

Alpha Centauri was a nice touch. I'm sure the young whippersnappers that have only watched NuWho won't realise the significance, but for those that have watched the old episodes it was a nice bonus.

Apparently originally this was going to be a third Peladon story, but they decided against it. Probably for the best as it'd have been an alagory for Brexit which might have been a tad too on the nose.

I have to say that this felt the most traditional old who I've had in a while. I greatly enjoyed it.

There was a quick mention of it though.

The Doctor says that this is the beginning of the golden age for the Ice Warriors, until Peladon decides to 'take back control'.

Also, does anyone have any idea why Missy kept asking the Doctor if he was alright at the end of "The Empress of Mars"? Maybe he's dying / injured and she can sense it. A consequence of the second set of lives maybe....or to give him an exit reminiscent of the 1st Doctor.

Only tangentially related, but Jacobi's coming back as the Master in Big Finish:

I think they overdid it with the political correctness in that one. The token minorities are justifiable and the horned vikings type stuff is tolerable, but that nonsense really took a hammer to my suspension of disbelief.
