I suffered through the reconstructions of the terrible original episode in preparation for watching this, and the Toymaker definitely did cheat during that blindfolded obstacle course game—his minions were moving the obstacles around when the Doctor's companions were up.
The Doctor said that... but also made a point of only selecting games that are so basic that you functionally can't cheat and still call it a 'game'.

An entity that can manipulate time and space at will wouldn't be able to cheat at a "pick a card" game from his own deck?

He can, it just defeats the entire purpose of entertaining himself with a game. There has to be some real chance of losing, however small.

That was a lot of fun. Even more so with the making of after show showing how much of the goblins were practical effects.

Absolutely delightful. Cute story, clever dialog, instantly likable version of the Doctor and Ruby is fun. Hope we get more of Ruby's family in future, love their dynamic.

I do wish they'd committed to the kilt for more than one scene though, it's a good look.

All I can say right now after watching the Christmas special is that I LOVE Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor.

So much charm and energy.

Shouldn't they be Gremlins?

Might have had to use a different name so they wouldn't get busted for copyright due to being similar in some mannerisms to the two Spielberg Gremlin movies.

I saw some similarities but that might just be me.

Just in, The Star Beast has achieved a whopping 9.5m in the 28-day consolidated viewing figures in the UK. This is the third highest +28 day figure since records began with Last Christmas, and easily the largest increase from +7 to +28 in the show's history.
