Also -- like aside from choosing a particularly old picture of GW -- those pictures don't host that much of a discrepancy in facial aesthetics honestly.
..What mirror universe?

TBH, Archer's manner of speech when he'd try to talk diplomatic does kinda feel Bush-like in how stilted it was.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 6:47 amThey are absolutely nothing alike.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 4:32 am I have a working theory that Bush Jr. was the likeness influence for Archer.

This is one hell of a reach.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 7:51 pm Archer's spun as an astronaut type of captain subverting the whole naval formality of previous main characters. It resembles Bush Jr's outgoing attitude opposite the GOP at the time, as well as his plot to embark further upon his father's work with Starfleet.
I got nothing to say here.

To be fair, the Xindi War was meant to be a big 9/11 and War on Terror analog. It just was too soon and the progressive leaning political fandom of Star Trek would find a much better scifi analog in Battlestar Galactica. It was just too soon to know how that would play out and to give a pretty good analog on it.McAvoy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 4:20 amThis is one hell of a reach.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 7:51 pm Archer's spun as an astronaut type of captain subverting the whole naval formality of previous main characters. Kurtzman has announced a 7th series for Trek in STARFLEET ACADEMY.

The 8th show I bet will be a sitcom of a married couple with kids living on a ship with nosy neighbors and dealing with the daily life of being two officers trying to raise those kids.
I am taking bets now.

As well, I think the angle they took was a bit of a “not quite what anyone wanted” approach. The Xindi arc is really heavy on the ways that anger and revenge can cloud and corrupt people, even if they’re acting to protect themselves from a genuine attack/threat. And ultimately it does come down to Archer realizing it was an imperial power and one particularly nasty faction within the Enemy who were manipulating everyone else into the conflict, so it’s kinda too pro-war/pro-torture for the first half for progressives to get on board but way too “this is bad, these people really aren’t the enemy” for more moderate folk, let alone conservatives.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 5:19 am

I do wonder if CBS has anything else new people care for.

People watch Paramount Plus for:Thebestoftherest wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:17 am I do wonder if CBS has anything else new people care for.
* Star Trek
* Love Island
* Big Brother
* The Good Fight
Not even Clarice is doing that well. Still, they ARE watching these things and paying money directly to the company which means that Star Trek is a lot more profitable than it would be shown for advertising money.
