I went to see Captain Marvel on its opening weekend and oh, boy it was bland. I won't say that it's the worst in the MCU (to me that will always be AoU) but it's not good either. The movie does have a few nice things about. Like I liked how the Kree were depicted as militaristic alien assholes (sort of like how they are in the comics), and I also liked the cat. Sam Jackson also really liked the cat and I also liked how he was able to get that fingerprint off of his wallet as well (I thought that I showed that Nick Fury was starting to become his own super spy that we all knew and loved before this movie came out).

Overall, the things that I didn't like were how the Skrulls looked and were presented (I mean going so far to say that they are "refugees" I thought was a stretch. In the comics they did lose their homeworld but they quickly found a new one and tried to infiltrated many worlds from there)- not only that but they looked like crapped and I can't forgive it. I also didn't like that Nick Fury lost his eye to a cat. Really that one was a really dumb move on Marvel. And I also didn't like that they just killed the OG Mar-Vell in a flashback and by a laser pistol. I also didn't like some of the musical choices. I have nothing against any of the songs that were played in the movie but playing "I'm Just A Girl" by No Doubt during the film's climax battle made me roll my eyes. Not only that but the one thing that really stood out was when they played Narvra Come As You Are but that song didn't come out until like 1991 and Carol left Earth in like 1989. So how did she hear that song? Because it was played in her head when she confronted the Supreme Intelligence but it was never explained how (or why) she would know about that song. She left Earth and haven't been to Earth for like 6 years and that song wasn't released until a couple of years after she left.

Also, I felt like the movie was just dumb.

Overall I didn't like it but I won't say that it's the worst in the MCU. The worst in the MCU is still AoU.

In what way was this movie being dishonest? How did the trailers, promotional material, or film campaign deceive, fool, or trick you in any way? I get that you don't like it, but how it's being deceptive to you is something I'm utterly unable to unravel.

It was OK.

Brie Larson was meh. Carol felt bland, more like Mar-Vell than anything. I was disappointed by the limited and played-safe political message, they could and should have done a LOT more. Larson likes to queer-bait on Twitter, which kinda pisses me off, but that's a personal take and doesn't have much bearing on the quality of the movie, I just feel like I should note this because of my own biases surrounding the matter and how that affects my take on the film.

Sam Jackson was great. The explanation for Fury's eyepatch was pointless and sucked.

Gemma Chan was hot.

I liked the black lady and her kid.

Kinda meh movie overall. I didn't connect with Carol much at all, I was more roused to emotion when I heard an Internet rumor that Black Panther's sister was dusted by Thanos (specifically, the emotion of pure incoherent rage because I LOVE Shuri) than I was by anything in the film, and I probably wouldn't give too much of a shit if MCU!Carol were dusted in the Snap.

Otherwise, competently made movie. Not terribly deep or satisfying but enjoyable to kick back and watch with a buddy and a cold drink. Could have used more Gemma Chan.

They know Captain Marvel has ruined the franchise forever and will try to save face because ya know conspiracy stuff.

Just like how DISCOVERY is an unmitigated disaster that no one seems to have noticed, except YouTubers that sit behind a wall with shelves completely filled with children’s toys.
