I wasn't confident enough of whom they're trying to attract to specify what audience they might be trying to attract. My thought was Trek fans, but that's just a vague suspicion. Whomever they want in, I'm almost positive they want more subscribers.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 7:59 pmHmm. Just from hearing it from you my first thought is it's basically to just attract more streamers to subscribe. Maybe not so much about Trek fan concerns?Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 7:20 pm For the interested, CBS made the first episode of season 2 available on YouYube.
I think that suggests they think the changes made for season 2 will make it more appealing to some audience.

You could be right and I'm just getting hung up on general audiences that see flashy lights in space opposite actual fandom that had concerns with this show as a rendition with Trek conventions.Darth Wedgius wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 9:13 pmI wasn't confident enough of whom they're trying to attract to specify what audience they might be trying to attract. Showtime (which is owned by CBS) did the same thing with the new Twin Peaks limited series by posting the first episode on YouTube to attract more subscribers to their app, which got a major boost of subscriptions for that show alone.

Re: Sta Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
anyone ever hear of a reviewer "Doomcock"
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeCJB8 ... 1U0rlJsW-A
I only mention him as he is relaying some very specific (and verifiable in the future if it isn't larping) predictions from a supposed "CBS insider." An interesting watch if you find the real-life politics/story around CBS/Bad Robot/Kurtzmann more/as interesting as the drama in STD itself.
If anyone is interested, but doesn't have the time, i'll post some of his hearsay here.

I like Doomcock, his abject seething hatred of Discovery is entertaining. Sure, the more level headed reviews like Chuck or Trekyards are better for getting an idea of the show, but I do enjoy me an hour long rant about why it sucks.
However his sources in the past have not been consistently reliable. So take all the rumors with a grain of salt, and even the "confirmed" news with at least a bit of skepticism.

I'm curious, has Chuck seen the similarities between Michael Burnham and Wesley Crusher, you know, being a Mary Sue and a creator's pet, and commented on it?

Re: Sta Trek Discovery season 2 megathread
I tried watching Doomcock, his hyperbole was kinda amusing but then he just launched into the canon minutiae rant fest (some of which was on point, like how the interaction between Kid Spock and Kid Burnham sucks, some of which was personal preference that I happened to agree with like "Captain Pike's uniform is cut really weird", and some of which was tedious bullshit) and started using alt-right buzzwords like "Cuck", so I turned him off.Zoinksberg wrote: ↑Sun Jan 27, 2019 6:51 pm I like Doomcock, his abject seething hatred of Discovery is entertaining. Protip: Don't use alt-right buzzwords, they turn off anybody who isn't alt-right. And there ain't that many alt-right asshats in the world.

What's the problem with the word "cuck?"

Aside from being an immature insult? He's convinced only Nazis use the word.

By the same token, I know a few right-wingers personally who rarely if have ever used it. These would be center righters, not actual hard-righters.
