Is Rey too Powerful?
Re: Is Rey too Powerful?
Endor moon must be planet size, it'd not like anyone was doing 20 foot jumps. Which means Endor planet itself has to be pretty damned big to keep a Earth sized moon in place and by the looks of it, stable too.
I got nothing to say here.

Gravity is determined solely by density stead volume.
For that matter, both Star Wars and Star Trek are pretty inexplicable how every m-class planet has an apparent 9.8 m/s/s gravity field at the surface.

Yes. I am very aware of that. Thanks.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 4:23 amGravity is determined solely by density stead volume.

So unless that moon is made up of something incredibly dense, gives the moon nearly identical conditions to be a 'forest moon', sunlight, protection from radiation etc, I am going by that this is a Earth sized moon probably orbiting a gas giant. But we don't see that gas giant at all.
So... Yeah.

Well the only time they really went into that was Yavin. The rebel base was on a forest moon of that gas giant. . . How many gas giants have forest moons in this galaxy?

Mercury is the same density as Earth and thus has 1/3 gravity. But the fact that it has an iron core means that if there were more mass to pile on to it it would compress and not raise much in volume. Thus you would have a planet not much bigger than Earth's moon that has the same gravity as Earth.

Re: Is Rey too Powerful?
Well, The Moon is like 1% of the mass of the Earth. If you scaled the Earth up to the size of Jupiter, then The Moon would be 4 times the size of Earth. If you scaled the Earth up to the size of Saturn, then The Moon would be 1.17 times the size of Earth. It seems at least semi-plausble for a gas giant to have a massive moon. Still doesn't explain why no one ever sees Planet Endor.

I think since this exists only in narrative abstract and rather exclusive from drama, that the hyperbolic convention of star wars, when examining practical physics application of weapons and spacecraft, that there probably is a gigantic planet hiding in the opposite direction of the camera, and that's just kind of normal for moons in general which is why nobody ever compared it to Earth's moon in the movies.

I imagine they don't bother showing that planet because no one really cares about most gas giants. Humanoids can't live on them, and extracting most resources from them is difficult. And there's the simple issue of the budget - Lucasfilm wasn't going to spend money on showing an uninteresting gas giant when all of their budget was directed towards story-important stuff.

My guess is that it would have distracted from the effort put into the new partially completed deathstar.Nealithi wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 7:29 pmEwok plushies?Frustration wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 5:50 pm I imagine they don't bother showing that planet because no one really cares about most gas giants.
