Jett isn't arrogant. Getting along in a place like that (starfleet) with that attitude depends largely on if you're undermining other people and she doesn't do that in the slightest.
It also might be a matter of her being alone on a ship for like 6 months, so it's completely understandable why she's like that and even maybe how she survived in her own head.

If anything, she tends to help her crew members out by giving them constructive advice that they really need to hear, albeit with snarky delivery. See: her intervening to patch up Stamets and Culber's relationship last season, or her attempt to talk Stamets into letting himself rest when he needs to in the latest episode.
If anything, Reno comes across to me as a crotchety Guinan.
Absolutely.
Also to add to the list of things she's done, she kept the surviving crew of the USS Hiawatha alive for that 6 months.

clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 3:34 pmYou know what's funny? If you met someone like this in real life you would walk away thinking that they are the biggest c-t you've ever met in your life. Same goes for most comedy protagonists too actually. The sniping, the remarks, the comments, the insults - so funny to the viewer but ultimately it makes them a complete a-hole in-universe. Its worth remembering this whenever characters with huge fandoms also have huge hatedoms as well.
You just snipe back. I've found more than one friend that way, though admittedly, I've found myself in some quite wierd and confusing conversations at times, when both sides try to outwit the other with increasingly elaborate verbal and mental constructions. It can get tiresome though.
I've seen this kind of behaviour in forums as well, and in many cases I've also wanted to snipe back at someone that I don't agree with.
However what stops me is knowing that they would continue to snipe back regardless of what I would say, as well as me wanting to treat others how I'd want to be treated, and I know that being called an idiot for having a different view and opinion or for liking or disliking a piece of media isn't a nice feeling.
I'll say how I feel about something, and I'll try to be as constructive in conveying that view, but I do try to show as much respect as possible to who or what I'm talking about, as well as the people who would disagree.

Calling someone names is not something I consider sniping in this context, it needs to be more intelligent. Snark, sarcasm and laconic comments was what was going through my mind, mostly.

...And, to be fair, the wordplay between Reno and Stamets was more in that line. Throughout the scene in the Jeffrey's Tube, she was clearly concerned for his well-being.

That's fair, my comparison wasn't really applicable to your description, and as Asvarduil points out, Stamets and Reno's banter is friendly rivalry at most, and they do have respect for each other and can be an effective team, very similar to Spock and McCoy.

I love these descriptions.

Zargon wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 3:12 amIt's nice for the second episode in a row having weapons that don't look like "20th century guns". Both the thugs and the space cowboys had odd looking zap guns. Course, the space outlaws has space shotguns that went 'pew pew".
I suppose you prefer your ray guns to go "wheez" instead? It's a sci-fi show, what did you expect?
Indeed.
I really liked Zareh's gun in particular, because based on how it caused bleeding from the eyes reminded me of when Kes accidentally boiled Tuvok's blood in "Cold Fire" makes me think that his guns beam is raising the internal body temperature and is boiling the person to death from the inside... so a little different from going pew pew.
It reminded me more of that Varon-T disruptor weapon in "The Most Toys" that was banned by the Federation, only the new weapon doesn't vaporizes you but creates a large gap in your chest.

That was also my first thought, but the Varon-T disruptor has one setting, and that's tear the body apart at the molecular level from the inside out, while Zareh's gun looks like it has different settings since it took one hit to kill Kal, while Georgiou took a few shots before we saw blood from her eyes, it could well be similar technology however and Zareh's gun disrupts the molecules in the body.

So, my thoughts on S3E3. I...think some spoilers are required starting at this point.
First, I'm glad that the prior episode's trend of giving background characters more dialogue continued, even giving the lesser BOFFs and Tilly some time down at what used to be Starfleet Academy. That was a very nice touch that needs to continue.
Next - United Earth is a thing again. Holy shit. As someone who's an Enterprise fan, it was a nice bit of general-situation fanservice, but still. That's quite a change.
Unfortunately, this episode proved what I said the last episode proved. The mere presence of Michael is back, and sure enough, it distorts the entire perspective of the show. Saru made captain...except that Michael had to be the one to give it to him, instead of the crew themselves being able to say, "You know what? Saru is a great leader, let's follow him." Michael has been in wild space for a year, but she's still the speaker of the friggin' Senate. What the hell. While I haven't been anti-Michael, I'm starting to wish her character had gone on sabbatical with Booker. I feel like Michael sabotaged the importance of that scene because she just has to be the center of everything.
Also, she did one of her boneheaded plans again, and relied on Discovery to - and I quote - "figure it out." I really wish she'd actually learned her lesson about doing that. The last time she did that shit, a bunch of people died. If I were Saru, for that alone I would say, "You know what? I should probably find a different #2."
Side note - I wish Booker would stay. We know he's at least a 6th Level Druid, given that he can cast Plant Growth, which is a 3rd level spell. I do hope that he makes some recurring appearances as an ally of the Discovery, though.
Adira is an interesting character, but they haven't had time to come into their own. She's a wunderkind, but she fortunately talks less than Wesley (thank God.) I love how she put her evil plan into action without any gloating whatsoever - I'm fairly sure that if Georgiou knew, she'd approve.
With that said, the writers clearly don't know what intelligence is. Adira displays clairvoyance, not genius. If she'd made her big, "That cube is connected directly to the bridge controls!" while in a Jeffrey's tube, that'd count as intelligence - she would have gathered information, and after some thinking, come to a correct and useful conclusion more quickly than most would. As it is, she's a Human/Trill Jedi Technomage.
Lastly, speaking of Georgiou, two interesting moments. At the start when Michael beams aboard, she clearly wants a hug. B) her razzing of Booker is amazing. I lol'd.

I'd recommend the named color transparent. Avoids these problems:
