Yeah, the "super-powered girl with special destiny" mode of companion got old pretty fast. I like Companions who are awesome not because of any special power or destiny, but simply because they're brave and smart and good.King of the owls wrote:The Romulan Republic wrote:
God, I miss Amy and Rory. Especially His Badassness, the Last Centurion. But really, both of them.
I agree that the two-companion dynamic can work well, and I'd like to see it again, soon. Either another couple (would maybe cut down on Doctor/Companion shipping, too), or a brother-sister duo or something.
Yeah while I was never too fond of Moffat's era, I do feel like the Amy, Rory, Eleven dynamic was one of the strengths of his run. Hopefully we'll see another two-companion dynamic in the near future. Perhaps they could do something like the Two, Jamie and Zoe dynamic . A companion from the past and one from the future?(Or just a alien world?)
If anything I just want some more companions who are interesting but not because they're destined to be with the doctor or whatever.

Re: Doctor Who S10
Apparently the 13th doctor will be announced sunday?

Will the actually surprise us and pick a woman?(Or at least maybe a non white dude?) or will they play it safe and pick some white dude in his mid 30s?
Personally I'm predicting the "play it safe" route but I would like to be wrong.

Re: Doctor Who S10
Depends on which white dude in their thirties that they pick. If it's Ben Whishaw or Colin Morgan, I'm not going to shed any tears. As it's the start of a new showrunner's time on the show I don't think they're going to go too risky just yet.
Re: Doctor Who S10
What they should do is fake us out now and hold off revealing the actual one until Xmas; reveal it as someone controversial now, that way when the actual reveal happens at Xmas, everyone will have gotten the bile out of their systems and it'd be surprising for once (as far as I'm aware apart from maybe John Hurt, all the new Doctors have been announced ahead of time so it'd be nice to surprise everyone for a change).
Re: Doctor Who S10
Problem with holding off is that inevitably the actor's identity would get leaked by anyone who knows the filming locations and has a telephoto lens, and we know they'll be recording in the autumn.
