Mark then went on to say that he has really bad ideas and admitted he didn't think the ending to TFA would work...but once he saw it felt that it did in fact succeed. So no...not necessarily a bad sign.Formless One wrote:Well, it seems Mark Hamill doesn't like the direction they are taking Luke in this film, and has said as much to the director. Does it bother you that Disney will be risk averse with Star Wars?

Hey Mark, here are some stock tips. On the one hand, Hamill's statements are potentially troubling for big Luke Skywalker fans. With all the focus on setting up the next generation of heroes, there's a lot of OT fans who feel like the original heroes are/will be relegated to the background or worse. So what Luke fans (and Hamill) want won't necessarily coincide with the decisions made by the powers that be.
On the other hand, the whole point of the quote has been misconstrued. Probably not the best way to put things given how the media and fans can run with snippets of text/audio, but the idea was to credit Rian Johnson.

Which really means nothing.
Usually actors are put under non-disclosure or similar "only positive commentary" on a project. I'd be surprised if Mark didn't get a stern lecture his agent or from Disney for that.
We're just going to have to see how VIII pans out. Just the old prequel movie preparations again. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Enjoy the memes and review material if it's the latter.

My biggest concern is if they're ditching the joy/pleasure metaphor for the light/dark sides. R1 seemed to to do a better job with it than TFA with Jyn and Cassian overcoming their quick and easy apathetic and ends-justify-the-means mindsets despite not being Jedi.
I mean the whole idea of needing self-mastery to truly be good because your good intentions can be twisted by your desires seems particularly relevant nowadays with everyone being addicted to righteous anger.
People already misinterpret balance as "neutral", the light is the balancing side, fear and anger are balanced by courage and mercy whereas being unbalanced by uncontrolled fear and anger is the dark side. Its best demonstrated in the Mortis trilogy where the Daughter defends the Father while the Son rebels against him.

Frankly the balance subject in the prequels was very poorly done. Nobody even knew what "balance" was supposed to be, only that there was some undisclosed prophecy about a "chosen one" and he'd bring balance, and that was implied to be good even though the Jedi were currently on top.GandALF wrote:My biggest concern is if they're ditching the joy/pleasure metaphor for the light/dark sides. When it comes to the light/dark paradigm I've always taken Yoda's teachings as the best guide. The light side comes from calm, peace and control. The dark side is fuelled by anger, fear and aggression. It's very easy to channel great strength from those emotions, but to do so carries a cost, makes the user lose their original focus, intent, compassion. It's an addictive power that requires great willpower to be able to withdraw from.
What's more, a lot of the Jedi code is based upon Bushido which encourages loyalty, compassion and a calm reflective view of the world, honed by constant practise and dedication to the art.
I hope they're not going to ditch these views for what might be considered changing the force into Marvel superpowers for all intents and purposes.

Han Solo film loses its directors: http://www.starwars.com/news/a-message- ... -solo-film
Is it bad that I kind of want them to make a mistake so that the franchise can go back to its pre-Disney semi-obscurity? Things like the non-grouchy neckbeard population touting Rey as the first female Jedi are starting to bother me.
