There is a long history of bad examples of all those things in ST. But also, an equally long history of good examples. The bad things are often minor, contained, and experiments that weren't quite successful, but because there are so many times they take risks that pay off we consider the instance a merely learning event and continue with our enjoyment.Al-1701 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 12:53 am Which makes me think even if they did use the ideas you suggested, or something else, you would still come on here, complaining. Why are you even a Star Trek fan? It's not like borrowing from other works, contrived plots and solutions, nonsensical aliens, and political commentary are recent developments in this franchise.
But the recent (and by that, I mean the TNG movies and everything after DS9) offerings have been increasingly lazy, badly-written, poorly-thought-out, and just generally excuses to extract money from people devoted to ST. And when an independent creator tried to make something that looked great, was exciting, and clearly had more than a little philosophical and ethical thinking behind it, Paramount shut him down hard - because he made them look so bad that his fan product seriously threatened their bottom line.
Why am I even a Star Trek fan? I'm not, any longer.
