I was coming into Altered Carbon fresh having never read the book.

It's some pretty good cyberpunk. Deals with the cost of humanity when new technology redefines who we are. Great action, great actors, excellent sets. Combination of the last two when a character is a hotel.

Bizarre sound levels in the first couple of episodes. Kovacs was mumbling so quietly I had to turn the volume up to understand him, then right down again as soon as anything.

As a newcomer to the property a lot of things seem odd about the introduction to the series. You're thrown in at the deepend when Kovacs wakes up not knowing where he is. You'd think that it would be to have the same perspective as Kovacs who's 200 years in his future, only he seems to be pretty down with everything and unphased all but the broadcasts he needed blocked.

There's also the two spoilery parts which bugged me.
Shouldn't Kovacs be giving Riker's body back right now? Also, couldn't this whole mess have been averted by Kovac's sister just sending him a message to come join her, rather than a notorious hitman and crew?

Outside of that. A pretty good series and one I would recommend.

Also, trying as hard as hell to remember where the actor that played the Fight Club owner was from.

those spoilers you mentioned? they are plot holes created entirely by rewriting half the book.
I've said this in other places, the show stands well on itself but not as an adaptation, especially the last third and its really creepy soap opera nose dive.

I felt the last episode dragged on for too long.

I liked what I saw of it, but the mystery he was spun up to solve was a little too easy. It does address social changes brought up when even "I am me" is, in some ways, not so solid a thing any more, for both good and ill. It made me uncomfortable in ways I think it's supposed to.

A little girl who had been murdered is revived. In the body of an adult male, but it's better than just being a corpse. And now she can pee while standing up, that has to be worth something.

Mind you, are they actually different people or just brainwashed people?

Is the Cortical Stack "you" and they're all robots with flesh bodies or are they just copying your consciousness?
