The new season of The Expanse is set to begin April 11th. Is anybody looking forward to this as much as I am? I remembered we used to have a season two discussion thread around here somewhere. If the mods would like to merge this thread with that one I wouldn't complain.
I'm still recovering from multiple cancer surgeries (you may have noticed my absence for the past few months) so I'm really easily fatigued anymore. As a result, I may not be as active in the discussion as I would like but I'll try to keep up. I loved Chuck's review of Leviathan Wakes BTW.
The Expanse - season three
Re: The Expanse - season three
Personally think it's the best sci-fi on TV at the moment.
I've just started watching Season 1 again when it's my turn to do the ironing. The show's much better on a second viewing where you're seeing much better where all the threads lead. Chuck's recent book coverage helped as well.
Frustratingly though Netflix doesn't have a UK release date for the Expanse. Last time it took almost a year after US showing to get here :/

I completely agree about it being the best show. Also agree about its availability (on either side of the pond) making consistent viewing a real challenge. It's also annoyingly frustrating about the inconsistent way the show is promoted.
Re: The Expanse - season three
I haven't noticed any promotion for any sci-fi outside of Star Wars to be honest. Though I don't tend to watch terrestrial TV these days either.
I was trying to figure out why I was liking the show so much and there's plenty of reasons. Great visuals, sensible space combat with them putting the ship into vacuum before maneuvers. When it comes do to it though, all of the characters seem rich and complex.
The politicians who are often presented as one-dimensional have strong and conflicting motivations. Even the spy in season 1 who was only a minor character felt like a fleshed out and real person.
I think this is another reason why I find it so easy to re-watch the first two seasons.

Hopefully S3 will be as good too. I also don't watch a lot of TV, especially now with my medical issues, But my wife likes it so it's on a lot at the haus. Here's a thing I've noticed about promotion. Syfy seems to spend more time promoting its Futurama reruns than its original content.
Re: The Expanse - season three
If good science fiction shows and movies were suddenly well supported by the studios that made them, I might have to question having fallen into an alternate dimension
Another salute for the passing of Firefly. o7
A bit out of the meta on this one. Watching The Expanse, Altered Carbon and the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, I've come to the conclusion that the only really well written SFaF shows currently on TV are book adaptations. When they start to go off script the like questionable things in Altered Carbon, or the unwritten books of GoT you start to see a lot of plot holes and bizarre illogical things like geography no-longer mattering.

Re: The Expanse - season three
So the expanse is finally back! Look forward to discussing the new episodes again. I still haven't read the books, so I don't know where they will go in season three. I am just watching "The Frankenstein Chronicles" on Netflix with Sean Bean. That is pretty good. Not what I expected at all.

So I assume Sean Bean doesn't die for once, that's the expectation-killing twist?lsgreg wrote:So the expanse is finally back! Look forward to discussing the new episodes again.
