SPOILERS - Avengers

Post by Paul Walker »

For anyone who wants to talk about events in the Avengers films.

I know there are lots of questions I have after watching the film tonight. Though I am still formulating how to phrase them.

First one that really comes to mind: what was the symbol in the end credits sequence (if anyone recognised it)?

I too have questions, but mainly just in the sense that the story's not done yet, and I really want to see what comes next. I'm frickin' delighted.

The symbol was Captain Marvel's star, which had me bouncing in my seat with excitement.

So, I was wondering is Mistress Death in this movie or not?

Edit: I also want to know if the movie is any good to go see in the first week of opening?

She's not. His entire motivation got shifted from being in love with Death to wanting to kill half the universe so the other half has more breathing room. He also mentions balance a few times, but not in the sense of "more people are alive now than have ever died" that he used in the comics.

Overall, I disliked the movie, primarily due to their choice to stop the movie at that particular ending. Yeah there were some fun parts earlier, mostly involving Thor, but not enough to balance it out.

Yeah, I heard about them wanting to change his motivation to "balance out the universe" which I find to be really dumb but I was hoping that she was at least got a cameo and/or a direct mentioned to her. The universe is limitless and always expanding so why the fuck would Thanos want to do that? Honestly, if he does end up with all of the stones couldn't he just make the universe much bigger and thus create enough "space" for everyone without being a mass murder? Also, the whole "balancing out the universe" sounds like a typical Hollywood copy and past villain motivation. I am sad to find out that they ruined Thanos this way. The way he was introduced in The Avengers was with a nod to Mistress Death and they totally threw that out the window because of "reasons".

Well, Thanos believing the universe is grossly overpopulated makes sense.

There used to be a lot more life bearing worlds but Galactus ate most of them.

So it's really his fault.

Honestly I felt they did a great job with Thanos. His own homeworld was destroyed due to people fighting over finite resources so he sees himself as ensuring life survives by equitably eliminating an unsustainable population.

So, Galactus keeps things in balance (that you are saying) but yet Thanos still thinks that the universe needs more balance? How does that make sense?

Okay, so I know that Marvel doesn't have the rights to Galactus but at the same time, Thanos' new plan/motivation still doesn't make much sense to me. First, he wants all 6 Infinity Stones, which would leave the user with the power of God- literally speaking. So, Thanos could do anything he wants. If he wanted to make sure the universe wasn't "unbalance" and/or "too overpopulated" then he could easily just make the universe bigger by expanding it. Not to mention that the universe is limitless and always an expanding place. If they wanted to go down the route of "overpopulation" then they could've done a story about one planet and not one universe.

The romance story, on the other hand, makes more sense because he is trying to woo the literal embodiment of death in the MCU, a.k.a Mistress Death. So him killing half of the universe (so Mistress Death doesn't lose her job, that she loves if Thanos kills everyone in the universe) makes as much sense as trying to give your crush a gift, IMO. It's the gesture that counts, IMO.

Also, the romance story angle would allow more people to actually connect with Thanos and also make them more understanding of Thanos. Now, I am not saying that they will agree and/or sympathize with Thanos but at least they will understand Thanos. The whole, "balancing the universe" shit is just something that sounds so out there and distant. Like they just didn't want to bother with something that was hinted way back in The Avengers (2012):

And also to have a motivation that would have less build up so they can just move on to other things. Also, not to mention that the whole, "balance the universe" thing sounds like something like a generic Hollywood space villain would do, in my opinion.

In my opinion, this whole "balancing the universe" thing is just not going to age well either.

Thanos says it in film, the universe has finite resources...or more accurately, the various worlds where life exist have finite resources.

'Space' isn't the issues, resources are, and it's shown that even with the stones, Thanos is not all powerful. Thor nearly takes him down...had the Thunder god aimed a little higher....

Honestly, they made Thanos more relatable and understandable than I ever expected. He's a monster, but after seeing his backstory, seeing him interact with Gamora and others I get why the Mad Titan is doing these things even if I find his solution monstrous.

So, how does that translate to "killing half of the universe to balance it out"? There's plenty of resources within the universe (on other planets and also on things like asteroids, Celestials heads,
etc...). well, the worlds don't affect the entire universe, just those worlds. Wanting to commit genocide on a universal level doesn't solve anything really except for just committing genocide, IMO. Hell, all Thanos could do is go to the worlds with the most extream resources problems and just kill off their population and/or just used the stones to "scan" the universe. No need to just blindly kill off half of the universe for the sake of balancing it.
Space' isn't the issues, resources are, and it's shown that even with the stones, Thanos is not all powerful. Thor nearly takes him down...had the Thunder god aimed a little higher....
Thanos has the ability to just will half of the entire universe's population out of existence with a mere snap/thought.....
