Moments Of Dumb In The Gundam Franchise

Post by PapaPalpatine »

Dumb Moment #1: During the space colony invasion at the beginning of the movie, the baddies from Gundam F91 damn nearly kill the female lead, Cecily, several times during the battle. Who is this Cecily? Oh no one special, just... their leader's granddaughter, who they were expressly ordered to bring back alive! Yes, instead of doing the sensible thing and sending someone into the colony ahead of the troops to collect the girl and remove her from what would soon be a combat zone, they pulled a Leroy Jenkins and went in guns blazing. Were they all not paying attention during the mission briefing?

Dumb Moment #2: The "let's retire our Gundams by launching them into sun" plot in Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Would it not be a better idea in the long run to tuck them away in a secure facility somewhere just in case they're ever needed again? Another group of bad guys then springs up shortly after they launch the rocket carrying four of the five Gundams. Oops...

Dumb Moment 3#: Char blowing his cover and activities by killing Garma, the least valuable Zabi, on Earth versus using his friendship to get closer to the inner circle.

Dumb Moment 4#: Char not taking advantage of his enormous popularity to build an actual empire together in the aftermath of the Titans/AEUG collapse but deciding to go full blown terrorist.

Due screaming in anguish as his Gundam is destroyed, in a public area, surrounded by people who support the one who are destroying said Gundam. Also, as far as I can tell none of the Gundams are self aware so why do all their pilots treat them like self aware beings. Due's bit where his Gundam is destroyed is just one of the cases where the pilots act as if they are losing a dear friend or loved one and it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous and makes no sense with the possible exception of Wufei who's Gundam is named after his deceased wife which means it is the only connection he has to her.

As far as I can remember Due's connection to his Gundam is that he worked on it and felt it was his and was even willing to blow it up to keep it out of anyone's hands that wasn't his... That's it, again as far as I can remember it's been a long time since I've seen the series. However, I do remember that Due got more worked up over the lose of his Gundam then he did with any of his fellow pilots which makes this a bit more creepy they I remember.

Dumb Moment #6: In the first episode of Gundam Wing, Relina's adoptive father allows her to walk home from the airport/spaceport when he gets called away to an emergency meeting. No, just no. If that was my daughter, biological offspring or otherwise, I would insist on having someone I trust drive her home regardless.
