Okay, so I just read the comic book adaptation of The Last Jedi, mainly because I heard it went out of it's way to address the fan criticisms of the film and wanted to see how if fared against the film. And, IMHO, it WAS a improvement over the film as it fixed a number of minor issues with the film such as the borderline self parody the comedy (no prank calls or iron space ship driers fake outs here). Holdo is presented more like a Bloody Admiral instead of a Luna Lovegood rip-off, at least says she has a plan, Ackbar is at least given a chance to say goodbye to the fans and it doesn't have Luke squeezing a alien breast to drink it's milk, Thank The Force.

However, it is unable to fix the biggest issues with the film, such as everyone still making stupid choices to move the plot forward, Rey is still playing second fiddle to Luke and Ren with her story still being more of a framing device to tell Luke and Ren's story. Rose still nearly gets everyone killed because she had a crush on Finn (I.E. she decided to take a leaf out of Anakin's book and put someone she cared for above the fate of the galaxy), Rey still pretty much falls in love with Ren despite him doing NOTHING to earn that love (Why am I getting 50 Shades of Grey flashbacks ). And Luke still considers killing his nephew in his sleep aka The WORST scene in Star Wars aka Star Wars' version of Spider-Man's Deal with the Devil from One More Day aka WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?!?

Not helping matters is that the Artwork is just plain terrible, with odd proportions (I'm pretty sure that Holdo's Head is bigger then her whole torso in one scene) and odder expressions. Also it does lose a number of the cool looking and creative camera angles. I may not like this film but even I have to admit that it was very well directed.

To sum up, if you're like me and you didn't enjoy Last this is likely not going to change you mind but I do suggest checking it out as I did enjoy it more then the film but that's not really saying much. Also, and I hope he's reading this, I do look forward to Linkara's review of this comic if anything just to see his reaction to the aforementioned odd body proportions and over the top expressions.

Nope, and never will. I mentioned to a friend the other day as we were talking about older Star Wars games that the live action FMV sequences make me feel like I'm watching actual Star Wars footage then TLJ did.

Also the comic adaptation was written by Chuck Wendig. A leftist narcissistic sociopath who's left winged tweets were so extreme and foul they not only got him a temporary ban from Twitter, they got him fired by Marvel, the same company who retconned iceman to be gay, made psylocke British again because having her mind on a Japanese body was deemed "problematic," and gave Ms Marvel a butch lesbian makeover into Captain Marvel and then were shocked when the book Didn't sell.

And the first thing Wendig did, rather than apologize for his tweets, was to name the editor who pink slipped him so that his insane little followers would lynch him on social media. Real class act that one.

Agreed, this discussion is about the plot and character writing of The Last Jedi and it's comic book adaptation. PLEASE keep the focus on the plot & characters and why you like and dislike this film ONLY! Case in point.

Exactly, though to be more accurate Ren wasn't trying to kill her but rather beat her into submission and was earlier trying to torture information out of her and had every intention of bringing her to Snoke who, as we see in Last, would have likewise tortured her as either a build up to him killing her or to force her to join the Dark Side.

Also, there is no point where Ren show regret for his actions or when ANYONE talks about what a good person he was before he fell to the Dark Side. BOTH of which happened with Vader in the Original Trilogy as Obi-Wan talked about how Anakin was a good friend and a hero and even in "death" still blames himself more then he does Anakin. Vader also begins to show regret in his actions and Luke can sense it and we, as the audience See Vader's conflict in a few well done scenes such as when, after Luke and Vader have their first talk in Return and Luke ends it with saying his father really is dead, Vader goes and looks out the nearby window, showing just how hard hearing those words from Luke hit him.

But with Rey, she is NEVER told by anyone, including Ren himself, how he use to be a good person. Han never talked about his family to her, she only met Leia for a few minutes and the two never even speak to one another, (on screen) until the end of Last. Luke only talks about the Darkness he sensed in him and Ren outright admits that he is a monster AND THAT'S WHEN SHE DECIDES SHE NEEDS TO REDEEM HIM!!! WHYYY!?!

Why does she practically fall in love with him despite A) only knowing him for a few hours and, more importantly, B) AFTER he murdered her surrogate father, put her best friend in a coma and tried torture her!!!

I joked about it but I was honestly reminded of 50 Shades of Grey where all Christian does is mistreat Ana except when he manipulates her by being nice only here Rey has even LESS reason to fall for Ren's BS because she already hated him for what he did JUST A FEW HOURS (or days it's not really clear in this movie) AGO!!! Rey DOES realize that Ren doesn't actually care about her. Eventually! Towards the end of the Movie! After he practically Spells It Out to her that he's just as Evil now as he was at the Start of the Series!

The reason Luke and Mara work as a couple, is that Luke treated Mara with nothing bu respect every time he met her and she returned that respect. Mara thought of Luke as a thug who gained up on a defenseless old man and, subsequently, ruined her life. But as the Trilogy goes on Mara starts to learn that Palpatine saw her as nothing but a tool and was emotionally abusive towards her. Mara's arc is her realizing/coming to terms with these facts and see Luke, Karrde, Han and Leia as her real family as they see value as a person instead of something they can use to their benefit.

Also, the two didn't end up together until a few years after TTT and most of TTT is just them becoming friends which made for a much more compelling relationship unlike falling for someone who openly admits to enjoying being evil and kill or hurt those you love.

To those who like this movie, PLEASE explain this to me!!! I except the fact that you like this movie and this relationship but I just don't see the appeal AND I'M A ROMANTIC!!! I'm the kind of person who's exited for Spider-Man Far From Home mostly because it will have more focus on Peter and MJ's relationship as the two become closer together and maybe develop a romance. I wanted to enjoy Korra's first season because it would have a romance between Korra and Mako (which turned out to be one Hell of a let down given how crap that relationship turned out) and came to love Korra and Asami's relationship and was watching the show just as much to see if they would get together. And I squeed in excitement when I learned you could marry Cullen and Sera in Dragon Age Inquisition DLC Trespasser and I wasn't even romancing either of them when I learned that.

That's how much I love Romance. Even maybe, sorta, kinda, I might just be reading to much into this, implied romance like what we're getting in RWBY between Blake and Yang, Link and Midna from Twilight Princess and Lara and Sam in Tomb Raider please for the love of God Bring Sam Back as she's a great character and I'm getting tired of Jonah screwing even the most simplest of tasks up (WHO THINKS AN ENEMY BASE IS A SAFE PLACE TO GO DURING AN ATTACK?!?!)

But Ren and Rey or Finn and Rose, I don't see how either of these relationships are even remotely good. I've already covered the former and the latter is, IMHO, worse then Anakin and Padme's because Rose makes the same mistakes as Anakin but is treated like a hero for putting her crush ahead of the lives of everyone in the galaxy. I know that everyone has said it at this point but I firmly agree with this statement, Finn and Poe have a lot more chemistry and a MUCH healthier relationship.

Okay, that got away from me but still, please keep politics out of the discussion and, as always, if anyone who is reading this likes or even loves Last feel free to talk about it. Again, I like the Prequels despite their flaws and all this is just my opinion and you are free to disagree with it.

I agree that the book is better, but the book problems you cite can’t really be fixed. They are part of the original story. Since both are canon, and the book is an extended version of the same story, the author cannot fix away everything that was in the movie.
