How often it was mentioned...?

How graphic it was when it was shown...?

Did we move into the direction of less mentioned and when it's shown more graphic long term?

I don't think so.

Star Trek often played up sex as a way to attract the non-nerds.

The graphicness of Discovery is solely because it was a train wreck and on a streaming service so it could show anything they wanted.

And they decided "People want a darker Star Trek!"

Which is Man of Steel-levels of stupid.

Shoot me, Man of Steel did as well as a supe movie can do in the 2010's. No matter who writes and directs.

I liked Man of Steel too.

But it's generally viewed as where they assumed people liked it because of its darkness versus liking it because of being about Superman.

Darkness compared to what? It's just another 2010s action adventure, nothing really dark.

I guess you could make the case that it indirectly influenced Trek, in the sense that all entertainment reacts to and creates- to varying levels, depending on the level of reach and noteworthiness of the work- culture.

More directly, I think the writers and producers wanted Trek to be more like other shows that have been more successful than Trek in recent years. And of course it depends on just what you're allowed to show. Roddenberry would have been perfectly happy to show more skin than he already did if there were any chance the censors would ok it.

To take another example, the f-word not being uttered in the history of Trek was not some kind of special stand taken by the franchise- it was just a matter of where and when the older shows were released. And Discovery, being a poorly written show, decides that it simply must break that cycle in the most awkward way possible.

In order not to be kidnapped by the CIA/FBI and made to do who knows what. This is the 2010's.

From low-res stills I've seen of Klingon boobs (b'ewbs?) during episode reviews, STD seemed to be going for a cure for any desire for fan service ever. I haven't seen the show itself, but I think things have been going for the sexier angle for decades, from Seven of Nine's uniform to Enterprise's decon gel scenes. Porn my be pushing that, but it could just be just the general cultural movement instead, or both.

I would think that the original 60s series was more risqué than Discovery, by the standards of its time. Sherry Jackson's outfit from What are Little Girls Made Of?, for one thing:
