I defend Star Trek: Discovery a lot.

But...

Do they just not understand Star Trek?

At all?

The amazing part is that the production team has already thoroughly destroyed the root concept of "Michelle Yeoh headlines a Star Trek show", which SHOULD be brilliant, so utterly and completely that this show can be nothing but terrible.

I am truly staggered by just how fucking awful Alex Kurtzman and his entire team have been throughout this debacle of a reboot project.

Well, the writers seem to think that Section 31 is a well known organization that has their own insignia so everyone can recognize them and is familiar with them. Members with their identifying badges on being tasked with standing outside the spore drive area with guns, because they are essentially just guns for hire. Pike is more aware of their existence than any captain shown before or after. Frankly, recruiting a cannibalistic MU empress-in-exile is the most in-character thing done to them.

(side note, eating a sentient species that is not your own is awful but I really don't think cannibal is the right word. I keep seeing it used for the Klingons eating Georgiou and Georgiou eating a Kelpian, but cannibalism is eating your own species, which neither instance involved)

So yeah, I'm sure a Section 31 series will go really well. At least as well as the Borg did on Voyager!

Ugh.

Don't get me wrong, I love Michelle Yeoh, but the Empress was such a moron. I mean, that stuff kind of worked in the Mirror Universe, if you don't take it too seriously - everything's camp and scenery-chewing over there - but the moment they brought her back everything about her presentation just grated hilariously against the notion that she had the least clue where she was or what she was doing. The way she was carrying on while she was supposedly impersonating Georgiou Prime on the bridge I was seriously expecting Burnham to quietly take her into the ready room and then just slap her in the back of the head. The notion that Section 31 would try to recruit someone like that clearly blind to any notion of self-control beggars belief; Luther Sloan would be turning in his grave, assuming he didn't someone manage to survive 'Extreme Measures' (which I'm not prepared to rule out).

Not that I'm going to be joining the Kill Disco team by any means - I liked season one more than not, I'm guardedly optimistic about season two - and hey, maybe they'll take a more broad-strokes approach and reconfigure Empy as a credible lead (I mean heck, all they have to do is get half-way there with the writing, Yeoh can take it the rest of the way with presence alone). I mean, I didn't even watch the last two Transformers movies - me - and then Bumblebee dug itself out of that hole like it was a walk in the park. I guess I just need to vent a bit.

Random thought; I think it's worth considering the possibility that they aren't actually working on any of the plans, they're just announcing things and gauging reactions. Call it the "Pasta on the Wall" theory, looking for what is getting positive buzz, and what isn't. All things considered, it wouldn't be a half bad plan...

Even then, coming up with an idea like that is just

Couldn't find a thread on the subject. I can't really claim to be all that interested but I've heard worse ideas. Hell, I'd say Discovery is itself a significantly worse idea.

Ah, I was looking for the actual title of the series. My mistake.

Maybe a time-traveling Admiral Janeway can drop by to give her some pointers.
