The whole appeal of the character is that their actions are dictated by the player. Just like when they make an Anime from a blank-slate protagonist video game, trying to make a movie about the games' story will just result in a bloated film with a middle of the road BORING with a capital everything protagonist.
If they were going to make a movie in the Mass Effect setting they should make an original story with allusions/references to the games' events with enough ambiguity so that people will not be distracted by all of the potentially conflicting backstory.

I agree with this part. What they should do is a TV series. I read an article once that summed it up nicely; don't try to make an ME adaptation the next Star Wars. It's the next Babylon 5. And get as many of the writers from the games as you can, but let them do things they wanted to do but couldn't for time/budget/whatever reasons while still keeping as much from the games as they can without sacrificing the story.
That way you get a nice healthy mix of fan service moments while having genuine surprises.
And most of all, ignore the fucking purists, they will never be happy no matter what you do.
For some reason when I clicked on this I thought it was about fan casting a movie.
Now my previous post just seems strange and off topic.
I do not know why I thought that.

To answer Rocketboy... I suspect seeing all of the images of actors and actresses is one reason you could have thought that.

Life is tiring. I only have so much attention.
Whatever.
