if both DISCO and Galaxy is a massive fail....

Let's pretend they both fail to connect with the audience.

For how long will it be profitable to write Trek books and comics for the franchise after that?

Despite Stewart being onboard production hasn't begun on his show. Nor has Discovery been renewed for a 3rd season yet. Personally I think if the All Access numbers don't improve soon they are going to drop everything. Just because they already have Patrick Stewart lined up doesn't mean it is happening, they had Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth lined up for the next Kelvin film and we see how that turned out.

I think another film will come next. Maybe the Tarantino film? Hard to say, but they aren't letting Trek die. There's money to be had with it, they know there is, they just don't have a clue what to do with the property.

Books/comics are dirt cheap to crank out. They can continue as long as a devoted niche is buying (just like Star Wars Legends).

Trek is dying unless STDisco Season 2 is hitting it out of the park with non-US viewers on Netflix. my prediction is that Trek gets moved into development hell. At least until CBS/Viacom/whoever takes the Trek franchise away from Bad Robot/Kurtzman. Maybe the Piccard miniseries might even get shortened to a 2-hour streaming movie.

Then maybe a 2-5 year wait until CBS/Viacom gets its act together. And I'd imagine CBS will shop "Trek 2025" to Amazon or Netflix, instead of having it be exclusive to CBS All-Access.

Patrick Stewart is the man who wanted Action Picard. I trust him to be as true to the soul of the franchise as Brannon Braga was - and he was often hit or miss.

I think the Picard show is supposed to be a miniseries, by the way. Not sure.

It looks like the Kelvinverse comics IDW was doing have ended, and died before the apparent end of the Kelvinverse in theaters. I don't know if any STD-based comics have been made.

I think there is another important factor here, Orville's success or lack thereof. If STD fails and Orville succeeds, they might decide nostalgia works and keep doing comics with some original Trek-universe crew, or even TNG or the original series based. If STD fails and Orville crashes and burns, publishers might decide that kind of sci-fi has had its heyday. Then again, I've been reading a Star Trek animated series crossover with the Transformers and that comic series started not too long ago. Pure nostalgia bait. I haven't read enough of it to be able to recommend it or anti-recommend it BTW.

Novels... Enterprise novels continued on after the series ended, but the ST novel market seems to have shrunk. I remember when the ST novels at the book store covered several shelves, and now its part of a shelf. I wouldn't be surprised to keep seeing the occasional novel, in case the market takes off again.

Thank you. And sorry, I just had to say it as it kept getting to me every time I'd see someone say it.
