Oh boy. Yeah. I'm thinking of a complete rewrite fanfic of Voyager to have it live up to the potential it should have from the start. I've got First Contact mapped out from the "How would you rework First Contact?" thread, but Insurrection and Voyager are proving trickier. I feel there's just enough good in those to save them. Enterprise and Nemesis, and the reboot/STD era? Eh, flush them.

So, how would you guys go about rewriting Voyager? I've had a few ideas for my fic, and while I'm gonna have to borrow from Chuck, here's one that would really shake up the status quo, that he hasn't touched on except as a joke, that would be possible once Pathfinder makes regular contact with Voyager. As they begin poring over more and more of their logs, instead of showing them as heroes who always followed their principles... I think there should be a court-martial of Janeway. The one the show needed. Who made hard choices similar to Ransom. Maybe not to the level of butchering innocent alien lifeforms, but still something like her decision in "Scorpion." Janeway herself could remark in earlier "seasons" on how if they ever make it home, she's fully prepared to accept the consequences of said acts, and this would be the time.

It's also irrelevant to the discussion. I'm trying to discuss ideas for a Voyager rewrite. Telling me to "get a life" is something Shatner would do. It's neither here nor there.

random ideas:

1. Plagiarize/riff/play homage to Gene Roddenberry's post-apocalyptic shows----Genesis II, Planet Earth, that show with Kevin Sorbo/Dylan Hunt and "The Commonwealth" that I can't remember the name of......the Delta Quadrant had a space empire like the United Fed. of Planets but because of _________, the "Commonwealth" collapsed. Now numerous factions are fighting for resources. Voyager has to navigate those competing interests and get through the 2,000 light-year wide space. will janeway be selfish and just look after Voyager or will Janeway try to rebuild this Commonwealth using Federation ideals?

2. Voyager had 20+ Borg episode. Fine. If you're going to incorporate the Borg, do it right. More Borg backstory, show the ruins of the Borg homeworld. Who/what caused the Borg? (my headcanon: Battlestar Galactica Season 1 + "Razor" were the Borg prequels). Weave a reasonable narrative to retcon the various, sometimes inconsistent, nature of the Borg.

3. No Caretaker arc. Just make it a rogue wormhole. The Caretaker was a pointless, unsatisfying plot point. Keep Kes. Call her people the Ocampa, and make Kess and Neelix bartenders, like Voyager's Guinan.

4. Hell ya, have a court martial episode. But make it the first episode of the last season...told as a "flash forward/flashback" and not showing the actual court martial (so you don't spoil who survived and who might have died). set it as pre-trial meetings between Janeway and her lawyers. And Janeway and her lawyer wargame all the potential arguments that Janeway might face, critiquing all of Janeway's actions to date.

Two characters desperately need fixing before you start. The first should be [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kipD2tqqD8blindingly obvious[/url].

The second character to rework? Chakotay. This is someone who's meant to be a credible alternative leader to Janeway, whose charisma is supposed to inspire followers. Instead, we got... Yeesh. Have him become a mentor to some of the Starfleet crew members. And a threat to Janeway's leadership.

And less damn Borg.

I think Chakotay was supposed to be a Kirk-Spock, merging Spock's introspection with Kirk's demeanor.

Anyways I don't get what First Contact and Insurrection is supposed to have to do with Voyager. Is there a reason the two franchises are conjoined in this thread?

Since you are keeping Kes dial down her powers if she has the same powers she had when she left voyager in canon otherwise it will make it too easy plotwise with some of the stories.

I'm actually not of the mind to change Voyager much, but she is a bit powerful. I think it balances with her ultra humble personality though.

I agree but the problem is if she is too powerful it can make some of voyager's problems too easy to fix.
